This has already been hashed out in the TiVo community forum, and I can assure you that there is alot of misinformation in that report. Furthermore, the DSR6000 is now discontinued. I have one of them and I have had absolutely no problems with it. I also have a SAT-T60 and have had absolutely no problems with it. Many others like me have had absolutely no problems with their units.
Some people have had trouble with brand new BMWs and Mercedes, whereas some people have had Fords going for years without trouble. Does that give an accurate gauge of reliability for each brand? Of course not.
Please look at this thread (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=88550&highlight=techtv) on the TiVo Community forum.

Sumi is cute and all that, but she really, REALLY should have done more researching before publishing that pack of mistakes, half-truths and plain old lies.
Hell, Leo could have straightened her out in 5 minutes :D

Not the Norm, But then again, all it takes is one bad experience published by a reporter to outweigh all those who never had a problem.
Sumi is cute but she is making a conclusion about a product based on one manufacturers unit. Raj said above that the unit she tested has been discontinued. I have had the Sony T-60 for a month and have not experienced any of the problems she discussed.
I have had no pixelation problems while watching live tv or a season pass recording and the daily calls go through everytime. The only thing I dislike is when the reciever decides to increase by 3 minutes each day the time it will make a daily call. It will go from making calls in 2am to making calls in the middle of the day when telephone calls normally come in. The calls that come in normally go to voicemail but if it is urgent and I need to speak with that person I have to wait until Tivo finishes the daily call.
All in all I love this thing.

AFH,
Your DirecTiVo unit doesn't need to make a call every day. You can disconnect it from the phone line and connect it once a week or once a month and make the call at your own convenience, if you find that the times it makes the call is inconvenient to you.
If you have broadband, you can also get a turbonet ethernet card (from 9thTee and other dealers) and do the daily calls over the internet. Check www.tivocommunity.com for instructions on how to do that. It's not hard and the new version of the software from TiVo (version 3.1) already has (unofficial) support for Turbonet built in.
