I've been a DTV customer for 5 months or so. I went through Verizon for a bundle deal, so all the start up stuff was through them and not DTV. I called DTV once when the monthy rebate didn't show up. At that time the CSR must have filled out the $100 credit for the DVR. I didn't have to put up the $100 deposit for the DVR. I just received an email from DTV that I am to receive a $100 credit for a rebate for the DTV. I figured that their accounting would figure out that I never put up the deposit. Most rebates reject you for lesser mistakes.

Any advice on what to do with the money? Consider it a gift? Be honorable and return it? Hold on to it in case Verizon wants it for some reason?

Put it in the stock market. In 10 years it will grow to about $250 at which time you can use to to buy a new 50 inch HDTV.

Hard to say what happened. Even though you got the service through Verizon at no cost, at the time, DirecTV was probably offering the $100 instant rebates. So their system just applied that to you, but late. Probably better to call them now rather than wait for an extra $100 charge to show up later.

Did you ever confront the cashier or teller that short changed you? ...... or did you just consider it their gift? You had to ask? Tsk, tsk.

Confusion like that is one reason I don't like all this stuff being bundled.
But a lot of people seem to like it

Hold on to the money or do something virtuous with it. It can't help but come back to you.

Personally... i would call and let them know what happened... what goes around comes around... if you accidentally overpaid them.. wouldn't you want them to tell you? who knows... maybe they will be gracious and let you keep it.. and if not.. no harm, no foul...
