View Full Version : AU9 Monopole Question
I would like a supplemental brace for my AU9 Slimline pole-mounted dish. I have the 8' pole about 3' into the ground with concrete, but at the top, it rocks a little in the wind. Not enough to lose a signal, but enough to make me want to secure it better. I already tried filling it with concrete and it didn't seem to help much. If I could find a monopole-like product that is longer, I could brace the pole near the top to my fence.
Would it be a problem to take a standard 19-31" monopole, cut it, and add a metal or aluminum rod to make it about one foot longer? (I have not yet seen one in person to figure out if this is possible.)
Thanks!

That should work. Or secure the top of the pole with guy wires.
Or secure the top of the pole with guy wires.
I did try that... eye bolts, galvanized wire, turnbuckles so I could tighten them. I anchored each end so the wire was in a straight line and even at high tension, the pole still moved. I tried a lesser angle and it pulled the pole out of plum. :(

Do you need an 8 foot pole or could you shorten it?
If it is close to your fence, you might check if you can find a fence post standoff you could use, something normally used to attach the fence supports to the poles. I use one attached to the eve of my house for a 12 foot pole. (I didn't want holes in my roof..)
You might also check the standoffs you can get for use with the normal dish installation. 2 long ones might do it if they would reach the fence.

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, that tall of a pole is necessary. I was lucky to find the signal from anywhere on my property now that I have the 5LNB. I have a small area, maybe a circle 5' in diameter, where I can see between the neighbors' houses.
I ordered the long monopole and I will see about some modifications. If that doesn't work, I might check out a fence company for some accessory/connector like you describe.
Thanks again for the input!
you could always buy some 1" steel conduit, flatten the ends and drill holes in them and you have braces what ever length you need..

I think that will be my next step if this doesn't work. Thanks!
