Well we've got a new search interface, but I'm having trouble coming up with matches using it. For example, I typed in "This Old House".
This should have come up with, oh, I would imagine close to 50 hits and I came up with zero.
As has been the case before, I most likely am doing something wrong. Used to work fine before though.

Have you tried other searches as well? Maybe it has not downloaded into the receiver yet. Maybe you should also try a reboot on the front. If it does not work in a day or two then I would call Dish and ask for advanced tech support.

The hard reset did the trick. Should have tried that before posting. You would think the reboot after the 1.07 download would have taken care of it though.
But hey, it's working now!
I have noticed something about searches that really limits it's use. I did a search for the program ER, first by typing in "er" in lower case, got 200 hits, probably the max. Looking at the results, every program that had "er" in it came up, a rather common letter combination. So I thought maybe it had to be in caps, so I typed in "ER", where I noticed there is no caps lock, so you need to hit shift before each letter. Anyway, I got the same result, 200 hits, so it appears the search is not case sensitive. I want to spend some more time playing with this, but from this early attempt, the search function may well be limited if you can not do a simple search for a popular program such as ER. If I am missing something here, please enlighten me.
I was also dismayed to see unsubscribed channels showing up in my results, although they are marked as unsubscribed, I really do not want to see then as they just clutter up my results. I would bet a donut that the programmers made it this way so that you would see results of your search indicating unsubscribed channels in the hope you would want to subscribe or upgrade to that channel, pretty lame if you ask me. If searches are to be of value, some changes are going to be necessary.
Try ER and then space. I think that works with the 501, I haven't tried it on the 721.
Good thought, however it did not work.

I was trying a similar search for 24. Lot's and lot's of results, but only two for the show 24.
It seems that it searches both program name and description. I would think most folks would know the name of the show they were looking for. At the very least, one or more words of it.
Searching both names and descriptions does not seem to me to be the best method.
Of course, having an option to search by either methed would be nice.
I agree with boomerang, searches should default to searching the title only which I would swag would cover 95% of our searches. If we wanted to search a layer deeper, that is to search the description, give us a option to select for that. If only the title was being searched and not the description, both "ER" and "24" would pop right up.

Space ER space seems to work, but it didn't find the thursday night network broadcast. Only the syndicated rerun and an episode of Providence that mentioned ER in the description.

we should have the option of searching by title, program theme, or both. can you search by theme and narrow it down this way?
