I came home last night and turned on the Florida - LSU game on my local CBS affiliate WHP Harrisburg. It was the worst HD picture I have ever seen. The backgrounds were smeary whenever there was any motion. It may have signal comprssion -- I don't knjow. But in any case it was awful. Interestingly I later saw some highlights of the game (from the CBS video) on ESPN and they were fine. Today I checked the 2 NFL games carried by Channel 21 and again there was no problem with the HD picture. Was this an issue with CBS-HD, with Channel 21 last night or with over compression last night by Direct which was changed for the NFL games this afternoon??? Any ideas?

I watched the game(sigh) and it was not the best I have seen, but it was the same OTA and through D*.

A lot of CBS games in HD have been horrible for me. Last night's supposed HD FL LSU game looked like it was on an SDTV using S-video. ESPN games have been badly pixelated lately too.

I noticed the same thing. There was a lot of motion blur. The low motion shots looked decent. It was not a D* issue as my OTA signal looked the same. I wonder if this is a CBS issue, a local affiliate issue, or both. The mediocre picture quality was really obvious when compared to the PQ of the USC - Stanford game on Versus HD. The PQ on the VS game was absolutely stunning even on a 60" screen.
The PQ might have poor, but the result of the game was great!:D

The Packers game on NBC HD doesn't look good either

I was wonderig if I was just seeing things. Usually CBS is pretty good here, but last nights game, esp on my LCD was pretty bad with motion blur. I was a bit better on the Hitachi 57 inch but not much
I noticed the same thing too, and I was watching OTA. I don't think it was a DirecTV problem.

NBC is always horrible when there is any motion it goes to crap, watching OTA here.

Every CBS college football game looks lousy on WBZ 4 via D* Mpeg4 locals. Not sure what the OTA looks like to see who's fault it is. The LSU-Florida game looked especially bad.

Gee, I guess I never noticed the PQ...too busy biting my nails!
And I do like the results even more since our poor saints are "woe for 4" :(

I thought the PQ for the Pats game yesterday was below par. It's been much better in the past.
Of course NBC proved it's self as being the bottom end of all the HD channels out there with their lousy PQ once again during Sunday Night Football. Good thing the remote works!

I did not think the CBS game Saturday night was up to par either. Usually CBS is very good. D*80.

Saw the same thing in Seattle DMA watching the Baltimore S.F game on CBS (D*). The picture quality was terrible. Looked like stretched SD but with the correct proportions. I don't have OTA reception so couldn't compare.

I agree it has looked like S-video quality lately

Did anybody see the Versus HD feed of USC/Stanford? It was of the highest quality. Made the LSU game PQ seem poor by comparison.
And I was using OTA for CBS (D*'s MPEG-4 local was equal to the OTA).
