My uncle changed to Directv from Dish this weekend. When he called Dish to cancel they told him that he shouldn't cancel because Directv is getting their HD stations from Dish's satellites.

Maybe they meant "a satellite dish". ;)

It sounds like some of the quality of CSR's are the same at both ends here.

Was the E* CSR on drugs when they made that remark?

Directv does lease transponder space for a couple MPEG2 HD channels from an Echostar satellite as I recall, but only a bare handful.
