Hi.
I just purchased a new home in the country so to speak and I am moving from cable to satellite. My question is, I am going to have 11 TV's in all and I have been told by DTV and Dish that I can only have 8 total without adding an additonal satellite and having 2 accounts....Do you know if there is a way to have more than 8 TV's without doing an additional account ??? I would certainly appreciate all comments.
Thanks,

I dont know the procedure, but there are plenty of subs out there with more than 8 receivers. Maybe order 8 initially then add more after a little while?
I do not think DirecTV has a set limit on how many receivers you can have. However they do have a limit on how many are free, and also how many will be installed for free. You should be able to get what you want, but will have to pay for it.

originally 8 receivers was the max you could have on a non business account. i believe someone else posted question on this. and if i read a comment right from Earl (please correct me if I'm wrong) saying that rule has been relaxed a bit and account holders is close to 11 now.

There's no real maximum for a single account, but D* has a department that will investigate accounts that are suspected of commercial use on a residential account. Having dozens of receivers is unlikely unless you live in a mansion, so that will sort of tip off an agent...

I dont know if you can call my house a mansion  but it is 5000 square feet with a 1500 square foot guest house so I have tvs in the theater, game room, 5 bedrooms, kitchen, pool area, family room, master bathroom......and that does not include the guest house tvs which I will cross that bridge when I get there.....but Im not using it in a commercial environment just like to watch tv
At the time I called which was about 3 years ago, they had the maximum of 8 sooooo what you are saying is as long as I can prove Im not a commercial operation they will let me have up to 11 ?? Course thats 5 bucks a receiver but I gotta do what I gotta go.
Also, do any of you know how the broadband is through DirecTV ??? I dont have any other broadband provider.
Thanks again,

11 TVs - are you a cult, or a polygamist, or do you just hate using the DVR pause button? :p

Latent. Try to find a local microwave provider. EDGE/EVDO would be a nice last option around ISDN speeds.

...Sure sounds like a mansion compared to my meager apartment!
I don't see why 11 receivers would be a problem - the two seperate buildings may cause some concern, but as long as you don't intend to rent it out or something, I don't really see why D* would have a problem with it.
if its on the same phone line I dont think they'll care how many buildings, as long as you arnt commercial.

Depending on where you are going you could try EVDO through like VerizonWireless, Sprint or the like. I am about 30 miles outside of Richmond, VA and use a USB EVDO card from Verizon and hit speeds close to DSL (756k with bursts of 1+ Mbps) and share it via Windows ICS to my entire network. It isn't FIOS but beats the hell out of Dialup. Word of caution, Verizon claims to have a 5gig monthly limit, that I have surpased on occasion without incident but you never know.

hhhmmmmmmmm that sounds like a viable option and cheaper too. I would only get "up to" 1.5 mbps down on sat. anyway so 768 - 1mbps over cell is not bad.....so I can share it wirelessly too cant I with the rest of my house ???

Should be able to, my setup is one of my desktops has it plugged in via USB and ICS turned on, the desktop is plugged into my wireless router with DHCP turned off and goes to my laptops and bridges wirelessly from there with the other desktops in the office connected via a wired connection. It runs me about $60 / month so it's not the cheapest option but when there are more cows then people you take what you can get :P
Downside the computer with ICS has to be on all the time for it to work, this sucks for me because this computer has 4 750gb drives among other things so my office is 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the house.

Hell its cheaper than sat net.....sat net is 80 bucks a month for 1.5 mbps down so 60 bucks sounds decent over time.....your right, gotta take whatcha can get.....Definitely more cows than people where Im movin LOL. Thanks man, I preciate it.
