It just got a $500 price drop...! :)

Here's confirmation (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/dealzmodo/directv-sat+go-gets-a-500-price-drop-308817.php), and here's the DTV product page (http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPage.jsp?assetId=P4110014)...

That is quite a price drop. I really want to consider getting this for my husband to use at work (He works security and a rather boring place)

Still too much for my price range though.

Also he still would need a clear view of the southern sky... Dont know how good it would work indoors....

He works in a little guardshack - there would be a way - weather permitting - to set it up. He would love it, and keeps talking about just installing the spare dish we have there.

I would prefer to get him the Satgo thingy - but $1000 is still $1000 and only a 90 day warranty.

I don't understand this device. Why not just get a slingbox? Yes, the picture quality is probably better on this Sat-Go thing. However, a slingbox, a laptop and an internet connection will let you watch everything you receive on your DTV home receiver/DVR without any concern about clear views of the southern sky,e tc.

It is not the target audience...

Would you use your laptop/sligbox connection out at a tailgate?
Or at a camp-ground (regular usage)..

Can your laptop also accept other inputs (like video games, DVD players), ect...

So while Slingbox/Network works... it really isn't targetting the same market...

It is not the target audience...Clearly, I'm not though I guess I still don't get this device.

Would you use your laptop/sligbox connection out at a tailgate?Sure. Why not?

Or at a camp-ground (regular usage)..I would if I were somewhere that would give me internet access via EVDO -- I've watched my Slingbox in rather odd locations.

Can your laptop also accept other inputs (like video games, DVD players), ect...It can play DVDs on its internal CD/DVD drive. However, you are correct -- it can't really accept external AV sources, unless I kludge something together using my camcorder's AV pass-through to run a 1394/Firewire feed into my laptop. I admit that's not quite as convenient. ;)

So while Slingbox/Network works... it really isn't targetting the same market...True.

I always just used a satellite and TV setup for tailgating...

I think the SAT-GO is a great product for a niche... and I think there are a lot of people who want satellite service from their tailgates or RV "front lawns".

DIRECTV deserves plenty of credit for a great product!

Yeah...and once they start making deals with auto companies to pre-install satellite dishes at the top of the car, they got something HUGE that cable just can't do...

It actually is available now and I have personally seen and used it and it works great, but its more of a "custom" job...

No HD on SatGo. I wouldn't want it.

I agree, since it is based on the older receivers, it isn't HD and it doesn't get the new channels either.

If I'm going to spend that kind of money, HD is a must! (In fact if it was HD I would buy it today!)

Could be the dumbest product on the planet. The only way this product makes sense is if it's like 400 bucks even then it still makes zero sense.
