View Full Version : 6000 and 148 dish only?
I'm considering adding HDTV and a 6000 reciever. I want to do it as cheap as possible... I want to purchase just the 6000 and a second 18" dish to point at 148. I have a PVR508 in the same room that I will hook my 6000 up. I want to use the 508 for SDTV viewing, and the 6000 for ONLY HDTV. So my question is, will my 6000 be functional if I just hook the 18" dish directly to it? I'd prefer to not have to mess with buying extra switches and running a bunch more cables from my Dish500 dish. Comments? Any functionality loss? Will the program guide work?

The guide will not work, if I recall, it comes from 110.
If you want to eliminate some of the extra cables and switches, you might looking to upgrading to Dish Pro LNB's and a sw34 which simplifies cabling. The 6000 needs a Pro Adaptor to use Pro switches and LNB's.
This is a more spendy solution, but would work much better in the long run.

Assuming you have a TWIN on the D500, it is no big deal to combine it with the dish aimed @148 by means of a SW-21 switch.
Hmm, I like where HTguy is going. So right now I have what I believe is a dual-twin (two LNB's, each with two outputs). I have those 4 outputs connected to two sw21 and those to two recievers, a PVR508 and a 4900. If I gave up on the 4900, I could connect the 148 dish to where the 119 currently is, and be able to get the guide to the 6000? Is there any way using just SW-21's I could keep my other reciever as well?
I had a receiver and a single dish for 61.5, and it worked fine. The guide is certainly available on 61.5, and I would be very surprised if it were not available on 148.
Meanwhile, if all you needed was an SW21, it would be easy. But you have two Duals, which require two SW21s (which you have). You can't cascade the output of an SW21 into another SW21 to add a third satellite. There are several other switch/LNBF combinations that will do what you want, but none of them are in the price range of what you were initially considering.
If I were in your position, I would go ahead with your original plan of an entirely separate 6000-based system, and then enhance it if/when you feel the need to expand the capabilities of any of the receivers. You can double-check with Dish, but I'm nearly certain the guide is available on 148.

The 6000 only has current program and next program in the guide. So, I would not be surprised that the mini guide is on all satellites, with the longer guide on 119 and the longest on 110.
