I am looking to switch from TimeWarner (don't get me started) to DirecTV. I have a ReplayTV DVR, which I LOVE, but its not HD. I have a few questions.
1) Can you send shows from 1 DVR to another in your house? (I can with my ReplayTV, I can even store shows on my HD and network with other Replay Users and share shows across the interent!!!! Now you see why I love my DVR)
2) If you can't share shows, has anyone else used ReplayTV with DirecTV?
3) Any other tips for a person coming over to DirecTV?
I have 3 TVs, soon all 3 will be HD, and I would like to have HD DVRs on all 3 that share shows, so if I am in one room playing XBox, my wife could watch her shows from our bedroom that are stored on the TV I am watching!

Sorry, but I am sure your Replay (I used to have one too) won't work with DirecTV. You will have to get one of their propriatary units. Or 3, in your case. They don't share, yet.
I have three, and they work very well.

If you already have the ReplayTV DVR, there should be no reason why you can't hook it up to a standard DirecTV receiver. I have my Pansonic Showstopper (ReplayTV 2000 series) connected to a D10-100 receiver in my office room. You don't get the benefits of the DirecTV DVR (dual tuners) but it works. I needed to get a special cable to connect the low-speed data of the D10-100 to the Showstopper but it works great.
I have a HR20 for the living room TV. I'm probablly going to get a second HR20 (or HR21 when they come out) for the bedroom at some point.

To get HD, the only way to "share" programs is to record the program separately on two different recorders. Right now, that would be the HR20-700 or HR20-100. We're hoping for MRV in the future, but at this point, nothing has been announced.
Cheers.

I have a replaytv hooked up to a H10 works great.... When it records HD the quality is DVD like.
You do need to "hack" it to work with the H10 remote control. (custom IR)
Hope this helps.
Just wanted to add that i've had this device since 2001 or so, and i still can't find anything that would rival its functionality.

You can of course run a video, component, or s-video line from one room to another, the DVRs have all outputs active at the same time.

Really? Those rooms had better be darn close to another to run a "video, component or s-video" line between them. :D

or u can buy an rf modulator(sp?) and then use a coax run

I run component output from 3 HR20s to a switch.
From the switch to a 4 port splitter, from the splitter to 3 different locations in the house.
Everything works great and no loss of picture quality (noticable anyway).
The farthest run (100' of cable total) is hooked to a 720p Optoma HD70 projector and it still looks great.
Audio is done with coax cables after being converted from the optical output of the HR20, so full surround sound in all locations.
Lastly, I use a IR to RF modulator in each remote with a receiving unit that sends the signal the the HR20, one using the AV1 and one on AV2. One is on RF through the original remote.
Took a time to setup and cost alot, but works great with HD throughout the house. Multiroom viewing if you will.

That's exactly what I did with one of my DVR's. It's a cute little thing made by Cable Engineering Labs. Fifty bucks at buy.com. Has left, right, and video inputs and RF coax output on just about ANY cable channel with high level plus it's a true MTS Stereo signal so remote TV's enjoy stereo sound!! Control of R15 DVR is accomplished by remote TV viewers using an "IR Extender". You put one unit by the remote TV and one in front of the DVR. I even purchased extra "senders" since I have this setup feeding 3 TV's. Works much better and has better range than an RF remote.

Are you talking about a component splitter. If so, do you have a brand and model and where did you find it? Also what kind of switcher did you use?

What kind of cables are you using? Long component cables or maybe 3 runs of RG6?
Thanks for any info.

here is a site that has a lot of neat cabling stuff. I almost got the component over cat5 stuff but ended up getting another hr20. I have purchased stuff from them before and is always very high quality

I use HDMI for my living room tv and component for my bedroom tv, but the rooms share a wall, so it makes it very easy. Obviously if something is being watched in the living room that will be the only thing available to watch in the bedroom, so they can't really be used simultaneously, but I live alone most of the time, so I use it simply so i can have my recordings in both rooms and not have to have 2 boxes.
