Over the last few weeks.... we have seen an increase of people looking for information about MDU installations....
This includes:
-) Regular users that live in MDU's
-) People responsible for the systems in the MDU's
-) Installers of MDU systems
-) People with such massive home systems.... they may actually benefit from an MDU style of installation.
This forum will be used to get information for you... and from you.
MDU installations are "just" that much different then a standard home user... so some of the things can get lost and mis-understood...
So ask away... and let's see if we can all of the MDU's up and running on DirecTV and their latest product offerings...
Ok, I'm going to show my ignorance, what is MDU? I am assuming Multi-Dish-User? Just for the ignorant folks like me, what is it?

Sorry... had it in the discription for the forum...
But forgot to add it here.
MDU's as you linked to...
Are structures that use a common dish, sent to multiple "units".
Condos, Apartments, and Hotels/Resorts are the most common.
There are other installations that use the same technology because of their needs.

What are the new 'i" series of receivers? This is for the MFH3 MDU stuff. It delivers DTV content using IP. I assume that either the HR20/21 is an MFH3 compatible for there is some new receiver yet announced that will be.

Good question.... but I have only heard very little about the new MFH3 setup.... and not enough to actually give you the answers that you are looking for.
I'll see what we can find out ... and let you know.

thanks for starting this thread for us earl. it would be a real coup if you could get someone from d* to come on here and update us on the eta for getting a chance to see all the new hd content.
;)
Is there a corresponding forum for E* MDU installs?

Is there a corresponding forum for E* MDU installs? No, there is not.
E* install questions (including MDU) can be asked in the general E* forum!
Questions that relate to HD or a specific receiver with a support forum can be asked in the appropriate forum.

The "i" reciever are only for MFH-3.
HR20 or HR21 will not work for the MFH-3.

No, there is no update on the ETA for MFH-2 and MFH-3 availability.
(While there appears to be at least one company out there taking order for MFH-2)
But ultimately, your ETA will have to come from your building management, as they are the ones that will have to cordinate the update for your building.

Just wanted to say hello, and describe the setup we have in my building. Might help others.
There's a bulk analog system put through the coax wires if you do nothing, you get the basic channels.
There's also a HD-OTA Antennae installed on the roof for the whole building, and this is also going through the coax.
Since the analog bulk and HD/OTA is on the same frequency, you have to choose one or the other.
What I have: H20 Receiver with DirecTV Signal & HD/OTA into the back of my H20 Recv'r. I do not subscribe to the HD Access Package (this was a fight our building had with DTV on removing HD Access).
So I get Total Choice, plus my off-Air Chicago HD Channels, comes in flawlessly.
I'm still waiting for HD ACCESS for MDU's to get all the channels. I can't believe they don't have a "mini HD Access" package for us MDU's to charge us less for the less channels we are able to recv.
from what i hear, from 1 of the big 3 distributors, they'll be shipping out the ordered mfh2 upgrades to mdu agents that ordered them next week.
does anyone know if pace electronics services the san francisco market as an mdu?

Pace Electronics is a equipment dealer. They used to be part of Multiband but have since broken apart. They will ship nationwide to any dealer but you need to find a service operator who will service your building first.
understood. i hear the only other player besides my current agent is a company called consolidated out of los angeles. i can't find them on the web however.
quick update on mfh2 shipments. they are going out in pieces. power supplies seperate from the boxes themselves. supply chain woes are really hurting the rollout. most folks should have them by jan 15th.

I think it's great that we finally get to discuss schools
oh
and one more thing, where's the dbstalk glossary in case new members need to find out what NFL and MLB mean. I'm sure many people think BBC means the British Broadcasting Corporation.
