I currently have Dish, am switching to Direct, I have only 2 rooms hooked to satellite now, will be adding a 3rd for the new install. The room in the basment has no jack, so I don't have to pay the extra doe, I'm running it myself. First off the run will be about 75ft, is that a issue with signal loss? Also what exact cable should I use? I will just leave the ends coiled and not put the rg-6 or whatever you guys use, the installer can put their ends on.
Thanx,
PG

RG-6 is a type of coaxial cable you should use for your run. Most professional installers use a compression style connector rather than the crap crimp things....
75' shouldn't be a problem though...but someone else should weigh in on this as well.
If possible, use RG6 with a solid copper core rather than RG6 that is copper clad steel.

Not many Installers I know are going to complain that you already have installed your own cable. Most would be happy.. That being said, for your own piece of mind make sure you have RG-6 cable swept to 3 gigs. Solid copper center is better, but not really that big a deal for Satellite TV. The only time I have seen a real need for the solid copper center stuff is on Wildblue Internet Installs.. The solid copper just holds up better with the voltage that is running on those things.. But for TV.. Just make sure it is RG-6. If you are getting the new HD Ka/KU Dish and HD system then the swept to 3 gigs becomes relevent.
The only potential issue I see is the connectors the installer has fitting on the cable you use. You might want to have connectors for the cable you use available. Assuming you use RG6, the only likely risk is dual shield versus quad shield. Quad shield is slightly larger outside diameter, and takes a different compression fitting.
