Note: I'm almost certain this has been covered before, but it's pretty much impossible to search the forum for "resolution" or even "photo resolution" without being flooded with results about the output resolution when watching HDTV. My apologies in advance.

I'm about to connect my HR20-100 to my home network to take advantage of the media sharing capabilities. However, I haven't been able to find a definitive answer about whether the photos are streamed to it at a high(ish) resolution. Can anyone chime in? If high-resolution viewing isn't possible, I guess I'll continue to use my mythtv box with mythphoto installed.

Resolution at this time pretty much sucks - hopefully they will upgrade it in a future software update - when they transition from Beta

I believe it is also a function of the Media Share Server you are using. If I recall correctly, for example in Nero MediaHome, you can set to either keep the pictures original format or to change it to a default size.

The bottom line is that if the picture is too large to fit on screen (picture resolution greater than TV resolution) then the picture must be scaled to fit. And the scaling is done by the server (if configured to do so) or I would assume the HR20 if it is bigger than the TV resolution.

Any time a picture is scaled, the quality will suffer. Overall, I don't consider the quality to be terrible, just not outstanding. But I believe that to be more of an issue with displaying any fix image (a compress JPG no less) on a TV, not the HR20.
