Is there any update on the Single Wire Multi-switch. I have been watching the D* website and all I get is "coming soon".

It has moved into limited INSTALLER based field trials... so the "soon" window is getting smaller.

I need to find one of these "limited INSTALLER" guys. The guy that did my install was limited to installing wire ;)

Is the reason MFH-2 is delayed because the deploymnet/rollout of SWM has not happened yet. At one point they were talking about deploying MFH-2 this quarter but since it's delayed I'm wondering what's causing it.

Can't wait for this to come out. I need one for one of main TV's as it is only possible to have 1 line to it, would have to over the house with a line to get another there.

you and me both. I'm loving DirecTV now more than ever. I can't wait for multiple lines to my HR20

If someone is testing the SWM, then someone is manufacturing the SWM. Anyone know who that company is? Tks

My SWM8 is branded as DirecTV. There are no markings on it anyplace to suggest or identify the actual manufacturer. The one sheet of documentation that came with it provides no clues either.

Where can we find info on SWM, like what the components are and how it is wired?

This should get you started.

The only hint is that the instruction sheet for the power inserter mentions NAS.

I've tried searching on google for "underground" suppliers and additional technical information, but no luck. They're just not widely available yet. And DirecTV has released very little information about them.

johnrrigg,

Thank you for the link. A lot of good installation examples for the SWM. However it still does not provide the answer to the question as to who produces it. I don't think it comes from Sonora. Quite a while back, there was some information linked that provided what sounded like engineering level design information. I can no longer find that link, but it gave some degree of explanation as to how the SWM actually worked (channel assignments, basic principle of operation, etc.). Good info. If I could find that again, it may well provide the key to who produces the SWM for DirecTV.

If you go back to all the original patent information which explains the SWM, it was all filed by DirecTV, so I assume the SWM is manufactured for DirecTV to a DirecTV spec and therefore would only be sold under the DirecTV name, not by the manufacturer. If that's the case, it would be like a receiver or DVR in that respect. Possibly you could end up with multiple manufacturers producing SWMs, but all with the DirecTV name.

Was developed with NAS.
Will be manufactured off-shore.
EACH TUNER will tune to ONE of eight SLOTs (containing 1 transponder each)
Each slot is spaced 150 MHz apart (containing one 32 MHz transponder)
RECEIVER WILL SEND BACK DATA TO TELL SWM WHICH TRANSPONDER

There is also talk of a five SLOT unit for use in residential.
(4 makes sense, 6 makes sense... 5 doesn't.... or does it?? ?!?!????)

The SWM5 and SWM8 have both been in field tests for a while. I have an SWM5. Will handle five tuners so two DVRs and one receiver. There was a rumor there might be an SWM11.
There's a whole load of information on the SWM in the cutting edge subforum.

It looks like the SWM-8 is ready for the MDU installers. I can't post the link, but you can go the directv.com and add the following /images/assets/mdu/DIRECTV_MFH2.pdf. or just do a search for MFH2.

You'll find additional information about the MFH2 in other threads here. It's not shipping yet, though.

The product is ready, however according to my contacts it is stuck outside the country right now, I think in Belgium. None of the major players have received stock yet.

One even mentioned problems with customs, lets hope that doesn't continue to delay it.
