The Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday that News Corp. and Liberty Media may go after DirecTV and Hughes Electronics as 50-50 partners.
The newspaper also said top executives with News Corp. were scheduled to discuss a new deal in New York City Wednesday with representatives of General Motors, which controls Hughes and DirecTV. Sources close to the discussions said the meeting was preliminary and may not cover details such as price.
Earlier this week, Liberty's Dob Bennett reiterated the company's desire to acquire DirecTV, with or without the help of News Corp.
