I just got my HR20 today and am trying to figure out how to set the remote. I have a in wall speaker 5.1 speaker system connected obviously to a AV reciever. I want to be able to control the volume on the reciever without moving the mode selection button on top of the remote. Can I have the remote control the reciever and volume without moving the mode button over? Sort of annoying to have to move the button to adjust volume. Currently it will only adjust the volume on the TV which does me no good because my TV speakers are disabled.

Thanks in advance!

I believe you can, but you will not be able to turn the power on the receiver on and off as well.
I would wait for Edmund to pick this up. I am sure he will chime in.

Welcome fellow Idahoan and neighbor!

I'm sure Edmund the Remote Master will guide you, but if I'm not mistaken, go ahead and set up your remote to control your receiver to either AV1 or AV2 using the on-screen guide (sounds like you've already done it).
Once that is set up, try this.

1. select your AV1 or AV2 (the one you've chosen for your receiver)
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 9-9-3
4. press SELECT

If you need any other help with your system, just PM me and I can come over and give you a hand :)

The OP, I believe, is trying to avoid the switch at the top.
One more thing to consider is that it will also kill your ability to power the tv on and off with the HR20 if you change to the receiver volume instead.

Think your right armophob....

essentially...I have the TV, AV reciever, and surround sound. I would like to be able to contorol the volume running through my reciever with the volume buttons on the remote and maintain the "TV input" and "Reciever/TV Power" buttons as well without the switch on top. Maybe that makes more sense....thanks for the replies so far.

Canibis your suggestion still made the TV volume go up....not sure that it changed anything???

Yeah could be. I'm trying to remember what the code is, but I know it's a 2nd step after you've programmed control of your A/V which allows you to keep the slider switch on the D* logo, but still control the volume on your A/V. This is the setup I have and it works great. Did you say you tried the volume control with the slider to the left and it still controls the TV volume?

cwseeger,
Do you have your TV code set up? I found this thread from Edmund, so what I described to you above should be correct. This is known as the "Punch Thru" code which defaults the D* volume control from your TV to your A/V Receiver.

struggling now....have not been able to program the remote to control the volume on my AV reciever, just the power I guess I did not test it before and assumed when power worked so would volume. Trying codes now to get that to work then will try the "993" trick again.

ok got the volume to work....tried the "993" code with it set to AV1 and the TV already programmed and it doesn't do anything. When I swtich back to the D* insignia it still is flashing and controlling the TV sound.

Nevermind....got it....was skipping the select step assuming it was in the setup....not always the brightest of bulbs!

Thanks all for the help!!
