I have a young child. With my old receiver I just selected shows in the guide and schedule the shows for him to watch during the Day. With the HR20 I can only set shows to record, is there any way to set the unit just to change to a certain channel at a certain time. This feature is really needed for people with young kids.

No, it's a DVR and recording is what it does. I'd guess that before you had a non-DVR receiver which had a feature called "auto tune" or something like that.

Having said that I read posts from peope with kids and the DVR is perfect for them since there is always something on that they can watch. You can even play a "group" so if you have 5 Spounge Bobs in a folder you can play the group and it will play all 5 in order. Or teach the young one how to start up their shows (you'd be suprised at how adept they are at technology).

Other then that another option might be to get a non-DVR receiver for the kid or even get a 2nd DVR just for the kids shows that you can do a parental lockdown on so they won't accidently play one of your adult shows.

Good luck.

There is also an 'auto tune' feature enhancement request in the wishlist. It's pretty low priority though. I'm a fan of auto-tune as I would like to have the local news on every morning when I wake up, and don't want the space occupied on the HD.

If the issue is important to you, I would suggest taking the wishlist survey (see my sig for a link) and voting thumbs up for auto-tune.

I want the same thing for the news. I have it record and just keep a single instance. A 30 minute SD show doesn't take up much space, so it's never been an issue.

Thanks for the info, I just took a look at the Wishlist, it's very comprehensive but why has it been made so complicated by the requirement to sign up for another forum to participate?
Playing a folder of recorded programs is OK but I don't like the idea of putting on 5 straight episode of Bob the Builder. I would much prefer if he could have a variety of appropriate shows to watch. Also recording them is an extra step in the process. With my old hughes receiver I just set it to go to a certain channel everyday at 2pm then at 2:30 it goes to another channel etc etc. With the Hr20 I have to record the shows then someone has to manualy switch to the next show or else he gets stuck with one series on all day.
I hope they can add this feature it would be a great help to parents with young kids.
