When i fast forward, then press play it doesnt stop where it was when i pressed play . I then have to fast forward in 1 or 2 speed and spend 10 seconds getting back to where the commericals ended. It only started doing this after one of the national releases a couple months ago.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Is there anyway to fix it?

It's fast forward auto correct and I believe it's here to stay. I don't know of any way to disable it.

Yeah, it's aggravating to me also - but it's something all the TIVO users begged for and apparently DirecTV was willing to give it a try. I wish they would give us the option to disable autocorrection.

What exactly does it correct, right! It doesnt correct anything at all.
Like the expression, If it isnt broke, don't fix it!
You could search for iamanedgecutter in a previous software version and turn it off after pressing menu and info at the same time on the front of the receiver, but that doesnt work anymore.

It's supposed to adjust for the delay between when you think you want to stop the ffwd and the time you actually press play. Like you, I prefer ffwd to stop when I press stop and not jump back.

I'm with those that don't like it. Especially on 30-sec slip and 1x. I'd prefer to turn it off altogether, but apparently we are in the minority on this one.

When i press play i want it to start playing from the image that was on the screen when i pressed play. Hence the fact that thats when i pressed play. How am i suppossed to be able to time something while its fast forwarding, they need to fix this.

The theory is that from the time you see what you want to stop and actually press the button, some time has passed. This feature is supposed to correct for that. It corrects way too much in my opinion. Apparently, I'm faster than the people they set it up for. If they could just take it off 30 second slip, I'd be happy.

It corrects for your reaction time. By the time you see the show start after FFing and your brain tells your finger to press play, you will already be into the show. It does seem that they keep making the autocorrect time longer, so I just purposely wait until I see 2 or 3 frames of the show and then hit the play button. I've got it timed pretty good where that gets me to right about the beginning of the show.

Also, since the MPEG4 FF is a bit choppy, sometimes the fitst frame you see of the show returning from commercial is a couple seconds into the show.

I am definitely one of the supporters of this feature, but I do think it overcorrects. I believe that autocorrect on FFx1 will be leaving us shortly, which will help. If they could dial down the correction in the other speeds, that would also help.

I like FF auto-correct on x3/x4, but hate it on x1/x2.

Agreed, leave it on 3x and 4x but take it off 1x and 2x and the 30 sec slip

I think that future national releases will show a tweak in the way autocorrect is handled. For more information, visit our Cutting Edge forum.

I'll second this and add that I feel FF autocorrect in the current CE version is far better than the current national version. FF in general seems to be much smoother. I think they have made pretty good progress in this area over the last month or so.

I guess this is on-topic just based on the thread title, but how far ahead do the slips go? Is it in 30-second increments?

With more and more HD MPEG4 stations; I think the autocorrect works just fine. Coming from Tivo; I really missed the autocorrect when I began using my HR20 over a year ago.

I don't think its needed very much with 1x and 2x FF; and I have a feeling that the next national release might do away with 1x. Check out the Cutting Edge posts regarding this feature.

I would take a major disliking of my HR20 over what I think of it now if it dropped this feature. It's one of the most innovative features the TiVo brought and is a no-brainer to a large segment of users. I wish I could get it in DVD players and anything else that has a visual FF feature.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I could have sworn that the CE version we had for this offered the ability to enable or disable FF autocorrection?

I now really have trouble using my R15's as they don't have this yet.

I found the 3x forward is dead on. I actually find it more accurate than a HR10-250.
