The following story is true. I offer it as a counterpoint to the many tales of the less-than-acceptable installations that are posted here almost daily.

Yesterday I had a new Slimline dish, two HR20-100 dvrs and one H20 receiver installed, replacing a 3LNB dish, a Hughes HTL-HD and two H10-250 dvrs.

The installer (Luther) was very good. He was quick, neat and knowledgeable about the equipment. The signal levels are all good and the reception seems to be great, although I haven't checked out all the new HD channels yet - just too many for one evening. I did get to watch National Geographic for a while - WOW! It rivals DiscoveryHD for picture quality. And later, some Alicia Keyes on MTV Unplugged in HD - she is just too good.

I do miss the dual live buffers (a lot), but I'll get used to the change quickly. I know it's too early to know for sure, but the HR20 seems like a quality piece of gear. The interface is a little awkward now, coming from a TIVO-based unit, but again, I'll get used to it.

It was even easy to reprogram my Harmony 880 for the switch.

It wasn't all peaches and cream - the install was supposed to happen last Saturday but the installer didn't get an equipment delivery on Friday as expected, so it was cancelled at the last minute of the install window, when I called to see what the holdup was. I had already been waiting for four hours, so I was a bit miffed at not getting called earlier. But, DirecTV stepped up and made it right without any urging on my part, so I really can't even complain about the missed date.

All in all, I'm a very happy camper right now, and I give Luther and DirecTV props for a job well done.

That's good to hear. You might want to re-post your comments over here (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=105034) in the A Thank You to Installers/Techs at DBSTalk thread.
