Today Dish added two new PI channels. Unlike other PI channels these may have some real appeal for many subscribers.
Daystar (http://www.daystartv.net/) was added to channel 9408 at 61.5° and 148°.
The 61.5° incarnation is actially a dublication of Sky Angel's 9713. But since these are two separate DBS companies, the channel has to uplinked twice thanks to the idiotic FCC rules.
FamilyNet (http://www.familynet.com) was added to channel 9714 at 61.5 and 148. FamilyNet used to be on Sky Angel until a year or so ago when The Liberty Network (an FN affiliate) replaced this network. There was some protest from Sky Angel subs about this, but there you have it!.
Educating Everyone at 9713 that was on 61.5 then went to 119 then 110 is now back on 61.5 and 148.

Actually, it was 2 days ago, 12/18/2002, PST midnight.
Well World Link(9410) moved to 110.

Ever since Daystar was added as a PI channel, the guide information for the Seattle local Daystar channel has said "Off Air."
I checked the channel, and it is actually still on the air, but does this mean Dish is going to remove the local Daystar stations in the markets that have them? (Seattle, Denver, Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, Boston, all on 61.5 or 148)

It could be that Daystar said if you carry us as a PI channel then you may drop our local channels. It will be interesting to see if this occurs.

Alas, I must report that my Denver-area system includes both Daystar (9408) and KRMT (8207), the local Daystar affiliate.
KRMT is on 148, of course.
Tonight my EPG says "Moving to Channel 9408 January 29" as every program title on the Seattle Daystar affiliate (KWDK). The info says "As of January 29, programming will no longer be available on this channel. You can view this programming on channel 9408." I guess E* will discontinue local Daystar stations after all.

I do not want to sound negative but I rather not have these channels. The PQ is horrible, to say the least and the programming is not of my taste (just my opinion). Why does E* waste bandwith (without offending anyone) on these channels? Why not eliminate a few so that PQ improves? I do not think this is something to get excited about. Now if you had told me HD channels, then I have something to get excited about.

This is a good thing, if DISH no longer has to carry
all of the local Daystar affiliates on 61.5 and 148.
Sky Angel should just drop Daystar from their lineup
too, and maybe pick up a channel to replace it,
since DISH is going to carry it FTA as a PI channel.
I wish that more of these networks would do the same thing,
instead of requiring DISH to carry all of the "satellator" locals,
which differ only in their station identification.

Sky Angel and Daystar have had a very rocky relationship. They almost dropped the channel from their line-up about two years ago, but the Sky Angel subscribers raised a row! The channel remains. If Dish were to make it an FTA channel on Dish Network receivers, then I could see them dropping it. BTW the PQ on the Sky Angel feed is much better than Dish's. :-)
Motjes2,
The reason why E* "wastes" bandwidth on these channels is because they HAVE to. The FCC mandates that 4% of all the bandwidth that E* uses (and DirecTV) be for public interest programming.

How can you lose (not loose) something you never had in the first place?
