My replacement 721 has been acting weird. First intermittent dropouts (looses lock) on tuner input 1.

This morning I woke up to what sounds like a jet turbine. The hard drive in the 721 started to make this LOUD whine. Its still working, but you can hear the drive even when the door to the room is closed.

Has anyone replaced the hd in their 721? OR should I ask for a replacement from E*?

Definitely ask for a replacement from Dish - if you open your box up you will void your warrentee.

Defanately call Dish Network and ask for Advanced Support. Dish will replace it for you.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone investigated what HD is in the 721? In the future will it be possible to replace it with a different size/brand? The reason I ask is that it might be advantageous to have an extra one on hand since you likely won't be able to buy the same make model in the future when the 721 is out of warranty.

Thoughts?

I wonder if they are going to make the hard drive bigger in the 721 in an upgrade just as they did when they went from a 501 to a 508, maybe the 721 will become a 728, that is one of my predictions, unless there is not enough room to do this.

I would definitely have this unit replaced under warranty and then when you get your next one, get the $2 a month warranty after the first year.
