View Full Version : OTA Diplexer
I just bought a Terk OTA and noticed on the back of the antenna and in the manual a mentioning of a diplexer. What is it and where do you get one?
The manual is not specific at all but labels it as optional.
Thanks!

it "combines" the signals from 2 sources; e.g. DBS and antenna or cable.
googling it comes up with Amazon and SolidSignal as sources, about $10
LOL
So I could have saved myself from running 100ft of cable to my 622?!?
Oh well, that's OK. The picture quality is excellent and I get 5 additional HD channels (not 24/7 of course but 4 are my locals and one is UNC HD). 12 total digital channels.
On another note, I plan to spread the word on OTA. Great quality, additional source to record from and it's free. Hell, one of our local channels news program is in HD now and I'm surprised at how much HD material I'm getting from UNC-HD which is a PBS channel
Thanks for the info.

You may find that separate cables for both will cause you a lot less headaches in the long run.

Newbies also sometimes confuse a "diplexer" with a splitter because of the physical similarity in appearance. Obviously they are not the same and are not interchangeable. Neither will replace the other for the purpose each is designed for.
Ordinarily a "splitter" is of no use to someone with a sat-tv system and will cause major problems if use is attempted. A splitter works with OTA and with CATV, but not with SAT.
Similarly a "Combiner" also looks like a splitter which looks like a diplexer, though neither are interchangeable. It's important to learn what each is for and how each is used and when you might need one or the other. In the learning process for these devices it would be equally beneficial to learn the difference between power-passing and power-blocking and how those ports are so-indicated on the product labelling.
Best to stay away from diplexers, why add more problems and cut ota signal
