I need to replace an aging Hughes receiver andthe new one HAS to be RF remote capable.

What are my options from DirecTV?

If I have to get an HD receiver so be it....I just want to know the exact model i need.

Both of the HD DVRs that are currently shipping, the HR20-700 and the HR20-100, come with an IR/RF remote. I'm not sure about the HD receivers or the non-HD DVRs.

I just ordered a second HR20 on Friday, it was delivered yesterday. It was an HR20-100 and came with the RC64R IR/RF remote.

If you want SD, that theres the R15 dvr. It has RF remote capabilities. But not out of the box, you have to purchase the RF remote and antenna separately.

The R15 series, H20 or HR20 receivers are the only ones that are RF capable - but as Edmund stated, for the R15 you will have to purchase the remote and antenna seperately. ($30)

And HR21 - Blah, I keep forgetting about the new receivers that are finally starting to trickle out.

Actually it's getting easier to list the receivers that aren't RF capable, isn't it?

Burn!!!

For me, as a newer customer it is easier to rememeber which ones ARE capable. I know there were lots of older rca/sony/hughes whatever equipment that was I have been considering getting the antenna for my H20 - Great Danes tend to walk in front of the TV (with a 56 inch its not as big a deal) and that IR doesnt work too well through Doggie.

Has anyone compared the response of the RF antenna in the box and the RF antenna outside the box?.

directv since 1995: I have h20-100 in the shelf the antenna can't stan upright, I tried hooking rabbit ears to it but didn't help, it looks to me like if you wanted a rf remote when you got the receiver you could take your pick, but then they couldn't sell you one.

WMJ5 - if you're having problems with keeping the RF antenna up, a little electrical tape wrapped around the bottom might fix the problem without voiding your warranty.

Not to hijack but, can a DTV remote be programed to control 2 HR20-700's in IR mode. I can only get one with IR and one with RF. Just want to know if it is possible.

Thanks,
Bobby

Yes it can.
Edmund is the remote master so if you do a search for his postings I know you will find out how.

For IR-only, you can setup the AV1 (or AV2) on the remote to be a D* sat receiver. Then you just set the receiver mode on the second HR20 to "AV1 or AV2 only". You will need to block the IR eye on the 1st HR20 with something (like a piece of cardboard) to prevent it from changing receiver modes.
