I have a h20 with a sony 330 dvr/player and was gonna upgrade to hr20 until I realized there would be a couple of shortfalls, so I stick with what I got, but am a little curious/just wondering about the reasons for the shortcomings--maybe someone can explain;
Why no autotune feature with the HR20?
(I realize I could set it to record and then later turn off the recording, but I dislike things operating when they needn't)
Why aren't the directv dvrs equipped with dvd players?
I am not complaining, just wondering if there are logical reasons

The HR20 is always recording (at least one tuner) when it's on so telling it to present that recording to you in the playlist isn't really making it do that much more.

"Auto Tune" is a feature a lot of use would like to see added. Not sure why it is not there. But please take a look at the link below vote and post any comments you have about it.

As Sirshagg's signature points out, you may want to voice your opinion at the Wish List Survey. (http://www.sizethis.com/index.php?module=survey&survey=28)

Upgrade to the HR20, don't deactivate the setup you have until you are satisfied that the HR20 is working. Purchase the HR20 from Costco or Costco.com. Be prepared for a week or two of D*Hell. Once you get used to it, and have a large capacity eSATA HD hooked up to it, you will be satisfied.

Because that would increase the cost. Most all their customers already have a DVD player. Plus they would rather you purchase a pay-per-view or in the future a video-on-demand. Contrary to everyone’s belief they are in this to make money.
