View Full Version : A Couple Questions on Locks

I recently did a "lock and hide" on some some channels to make my guide a little more usefull. I found out after the fact that the programs that I recorded on those channels now show up as locked in the guide--I have to enter the password to even see what they are. Anyway around that?

Also, is there a way to lock a given program in the DVR listings? I want to let my grandkids access High School Musical 2 but not the more adult oriented stuff I've recorded (it's unlikely they would but I'd just like the insurance.)

TIA!

Dave

Nope.. that is kinda of the purpose... To lock out the stuff on that channel. The purpose of the locking is to lock it so the kids can't get to it. If it left those things unlock on the DVR, people would feel there is a big security hole. I know I would. :)

There is Rating locks also. This might help in the area though I think you will find yourself going through an extra step of unlocking while you use the box and then re-locking when you leave and that can be problematic.

I just tested out the ratings locks. Using them does not show your DVR shows recorded with those ratings as locked.

Thanks, Ron. I guess the only fix for my situation is to put a little effort into a favorites list I can live with and dump the locks.

I use the ratings locks for my kids and I feel Dish needs to improve on them. I previously had D* and their locks worked better. If I unlocked something, it would stay unlocked for a period of time, like 2 hours for that program and relock after that, so if I briefly went to another channel during a commercial, when I went back to the program, I didn't have to reenter the password. Dish makes you reenter the password every time you go back to that channel.
