Hello,
I have Directv and have a 6x8 multiswitch outside.
It is not powered.
How many satellite inputs and lines out on a multiswitch can I get
without it needing power?
Mine is a few years old and I'm wondering if they've improved things at all.
I have a HD Tivo and old hughes receiver.
And I currently have two dishes.
The 2nd is for my locals off another satellite.
So my multiswitch is taking in four satellites.
But am thinking of adding a HR20 or HR21 and adding the 5 lnb dish.
So I don't know if I would also need a new multiswitch.
Finally, I'm also thinking of adding a 3rd dish for the international channels.
So not sure how this also effects my multiswitch needs.
But my main question is regarding a NON powered multiswitch and can I get one
that will handle three dishes and 6 satellite inputs.
My current model may be just fine.
But I'd like to get some feedback.
Thanks for your help.

I found the 5 LNB slimline dish.
Could someone please tell me regarding the multiswitch (PASSIVE model).
Zinwell WB68 6x8
Will this take the 5 sat's (99/101/103/110/119) off the slimline dish and 72.5 dish (for locals), and
the 95/101 for the international dish.
I'm guessing if 101 is duplicated than you only take it off one of the dishes.
I'm confused on the 6x8 multiswitch it looks like the 5 LNB dish connects to four input ports. And the international is on it's own port and if I don't use the duplicate 101 that leaves the 72.5 that could connect to the other international port.
Would this work or do I need the Zinwell WB616 that is powered if I want to hook up the three dishes and get all the channels.
Thanks, bjf

It will work. You will find your set up on page 5 of the link below.

Thanks for the link and help.
One last question, regarding the Mpeg4 dish which one of the two is better and may provide a stronger signal?
Is the newer slim 5 LNB dish better?
Any pro's or con's with each?
Thanks, bjf

No difference with signal. The Slimline is just a little smaller.
I'm not sure you can even get the larger AT9, but even if you can, you want the slimline. The AT9 has two separate LNB housings which have to be attached to each other, and which have interconnecting cables, both of which contribute to installation and maintenance problems.

Just had the AU-9 slimline installed to replace a defective AT-9. Installer slipped the new dish on top of the existing pole--mast, monopoles, etc. were okay.
It is also about 5 lbs lighter (AU-9 at 32 lbs including J-mount mast, dish surface, LNBs, arm and pole attachment) with no exposed wires around the lnbs since they are all enclosed in one unit. The older AT-9 used a 'side-car' connection which required 2 leads for the 110 & 119 LNBs exposing them to the elements.

New installs or upgrades by D* will be the Slimline dish. Since you are looking at new receivers, dish and multiswitch; your best bet would be to look at the link below for the best deal. If you are a DIY'er, you can tinker after the tech leaves.
