Lurker here…I think this is my first post…great forum. I just upgraded from a 501 to a 722…love it! :D

I’ve done a little searching and have gotten my self a bit lost. Hope you all can help me out.

My set up:
Two coax coming to the back of my TV1 location. One is used for the the Dish signal. The second coax I’m using to send TV2 RF to an upstairs game room TV. No OTA antenna and no near term plan to add one. (we have locals in HD, small HDTV, and dual turner is enough for our tv needs)

What I want to do:
I purchased a camera, modulator (chan 3 or 4), and amplifier to set up in the game room so we can see the kids without making the trip upstairs. I purchased this prior to having the 722 and planed to use the second coax to run this video. Now that I have the 722 I'm trying to figure out how to get the camera vid back to the TV1.

My questions:

1) What is the best way to get the modulated signal back down to TV1? Open for suggestions.

TV2 Cable:
2) Can I use the same cable for TV2? Video going both ways…?
3) Any problems with this set up?
4) What kind of splitters / combiners , etc do I need?

SAT Feed cable:
5)Can I diplex with this cable?
6)Any problems with this set up?
7)What equipment to I need?

Lastly,
8) Can I feed the signal into the OTA input and put the channel on my guide menu?

Thanks for reading this long post. And TIA for your help!!:)

Run a new cable for the camera

I don't know if you can diplex the camera with the TV2 signal or not. I guess you can try and see if it works. I do know you could diplex the TV2 output back into the cable comming in from the Dish. So, if you have a central location where all your cables come together, you can split the TV2 signal back out from the dish cable and send it to the TV2 room. Then you could use the cable that is currently used by the TV2 signal for the camera feed. However, if you only have a single cable running into the room you will still need to run an additional cable for that to work.

You can not put the camera feed into the OTA input of the 722 because it is not digital. The 722 only accepts digital OTA. You may be able to connect it directly to your TV and bypass the 722.

You could use a wireless transmitter, not sure how good they work.

I think you just need to add a couple of cable splitters, not diplexers. Upstairs; the modulated camera output connects to one port on the splitter, TV2 connects to one port, and the other port connects to the cable running downstairs. Downstairs; the cable coming from upstairs connects to one port on the splitter, one cable runs to the TV2 output of the 722, and the other runs to the back of TV1. I am not an expert, but I think as long as your TV2 output from the 722 and the modulated output from the camera are not on the same channel everything should work fine. The camera input will not work plugged into the OTA input of the 722. If the distance is not to far, a wireless camera would work great and is portable.
