Our original install date came to an end when the installer said he could not install the dish on the roof due to trees, but he could do a pole mount on the ground.

So when he comes out on Thursday the only option I can see is the pole mount or attach it to the siding of our house.

However, when he was out last time he said he had to charge us for the poll and to bury the wire.

Is it true that the pole mount is extra and Directv won't cover this charge? Also, I can bury the cable myself and probably do a much better job at it then the installer. Is this an additional charge as well?

Both of those items would be an extra charge. I still don't understand it myself, but a roof install is free, but a pole mount is extra. Even though IMHO it's easier for a pole mount, and safer. But hey, if I had all the answers, I'd be doing installs for a living.

The materials is probably the biggest reason why. No reason why you can't bury the cable yourself. That would be and extra as well I would imagine. That would most definetly be a direct relation to distance from the pole/dish to the house. I haven't seen to many reports of the installer burying the cable anyway.

Good Luck.

My installer wanted $70.00 to put in the post. I purchased a piece of black pipe and put it in myself. You want a 2 1/8"od pipe, mine was 2", and worked fine. I drilled a couple of holes through it and put in 2 pieces of all thread so it would not twist in the ground from the wind. It has worked fine for over a year. Got the pipe at Home Depot. Good luck

Depending on soil conditions you can spend a good deal of time and sweat digging a hole for the dish. 10 lag bolts and an impact driver is much faster.
