Am I the only one who gets a "searching for satelitte" on many of the new HD channels? Sometimes they come in, sometimes they don't. Tech says my dish might need to be replaced. Anyone else having these issues or had to get a new dish??

What are your transponder readings on 103b? Your dish may need to be tweaked.

Tech came out a couple of weeks ago and said the dish didn't need adjusting. Said to give it another week or so as DTV worked through some bugs regarding the new programming. Called him today and he said the dish would need to be replaced (no charge to me)

Yup same here. I lost all the HD channels and have 0's for signal strength on the HD birds when I had all 90's till today. I have a service call for this Thursday. My signal strength on the 101 are still all hight 90's. Everything was perfect till today

This is sort of strange. Have you guys checked the BBCs? Are all the connections good?

I had this happen three times over the weekend. I get a searching for signal and all of the signal readings go to 0 on all Satellites. I reboot and the signal is back in the 90's and everything is fine again.

Was it raining in Miami like it is here in New Orleans? Because right now, everything is 0....but OTA is working just fine! :)

Does anybody get the "please wait" message on the half hour and on the hour for no apparent reason??

No problems here in Nashville, where we are finally getting rain, lots of rain. The single on 103(b) is mostly in the 80s.

Different people are going to have different experiences because there are a lot of variables... bad connectors, old cables, corrosion, weak LNBs, etc.

We are getting a good steady rain over here too. No signal problems so far.
We need the rain almost as bad as you do.
I had the same problem....Sometimes i get the new HD channels and sometimes I get searching for satellite....I had a directv tech come by and he swapped my old multiswitch to the wb68 multiswitch and now my problem is solved.

what is on the 103a vs 103b?

It was mentioned earlier that the CalAmp LNB in the AT9 might be a cause. I was having the same issue and had mine swapped out yesterday (the second visit by a tech in one week) for a slimline. Continuing to monitor the situation...

what is on the 103a vs 103b?
103a - is some markets MPEG4 HD locals channels.
103b - is the new national MPEG4 HD channels.

Anyone else having these issues or had to get a new dish??The new 18GHz sat band requires a fairly tight tolerance on the LNBs, and apparently some dishes don't meet that tolerance. THere are other ways to have this kind of fade-in/fade-out, but this seems to be quite common from messages one sees here.
I had a periodic signal loss on all sats a while back. They replaced the dish and it fixed it for good. Hope this works for you.

I had a new installation on 10/3; new dish, new cables, new HR20, new everything. Worked great for a week then I lost the 103 bird, then I lost everything.
The subcontractor sent a different tech out on Saturday who showed me what the problem was: the installer mounted it on a wobbly vertical 2x6 edge of the roof, and the weight of the dish twisted the edge over a little bit day by day, resulting in it becoming out of alignment. He relocated it as a flush mount straight to the rooftop and it's been fine ever since.
Now all I gotta do is get on the roof, fill the holes and paint over the original installation, then swab some roof patch tar over the new installation. I'm tempted to have a roofing contractor do it and send the bill to the installation subcontractor, but doing it myself is a better use of my time.
A few suggestions, I may think of a few more...
1. Inspect and re-tighten all connectors in your coax lines.
2. If you have a multi-switch, make sure it's a Zinwell WB68 or WB616. If you think there might be a problem with it, wire around it.
3. Determine if there are any dimmers in use either on the same circuit or physically nearby and whether turning them off effects the problem.
4. If you have any additional HD receivers which don't exhibit this problem, swap them around.

No, your not alone and it's not as "Uncommon" as suggested here. I have been complaining about this since we received the first batch of HD channels and I have been told my numbers look OK so.... It can only be 1 of 4 possibilities.
1. Bad Dish
2. Bad LNB's (although number do not suggets this
3. Bad B-Band Blockers
4. Bad receiver

How about
5. Bad alignment
6. Bad connections
7. Bad cable
8. Bad los
9. Diplexed ota antenna

I do not know if it was stated further down this thread, but the WB68 (there is also a 16 port version) is mandatory for the new channels. They are within a frequency range not technically supported by the older multiswitches. I am surprised yours worked at all.

Absolutely! Thanks for the addition.

Had same issue and eventually lost everything, switched out my BBC's and have been good ever since
I have this problem only with the 103b here in arizona (Mesa). I have direct run from sat to h20-600(have tried with 2 different cable runs). 101,110,119, and 103a tp2(local hd) all work great all the time. When I restart my receiver, I get good readings on the 103b (high 80's to low 90's). This only lasts for between 10-20 minutes and then the readings go to zero. Restart the receiver again and same thing will happen.
I don't have any extra parts. Can the lnb and/or bbc be flakey? work sometimes and not sometimes? The receiver should not have heat issues because it has fans.
Any advice appreciated.

As I was having problems exclusively with the new HD channels, D* sent out a tech. He tried realigning the AT9 dish first, problem persisted. He then installed the AU9 slimline dish in its place. He stated that a number of the AT9 dishes had defective LNBs, but rather than replacing them, the standard approach was to replace the entire dish with the newer AU-9 b/c it's lighter in weight and the wiring is more protected inside the LNB arm.
MOST, but not all of the problem disappeared. He did a menu reset; said the only thing left to replace would be the Zinwell switch if the image continued to pixelate/fade out. It wasn't perfect, but it was better.
An hour or so later, I unplugged the receiver for 15 minutes, then rebooted. For the last two weeks the new HD channels have been perfect! So for me, it was probably a defective LNB in the AT9 dish (older 5/2006), then doing a hard reboot to get the receiver to 'relearn'.

I had the same issue and had three techs come out, all of them did not know what the problem was, one switch the dish, the receiver and still nothing!!!
Had one other guy come out and welll within 2 minutes knew that the problem was the SWITCH, apparently the switch that work with the other dish wont work with the new one.. MAKE SURE to have the tech check this and change it.. before taking you system..
