View Full Version : what to do with 771, only happened to one or two new HD channels

It bugs me enough, one or two channels are giving me 771. One is them is CNNHD. Is my dish needed re-alignment? The signal strength, from sat 99, one of the six is above 90%... I dont know what to do with this.

Old HD channels are fine, most of the new are fine. What should I do? Is this part of the D**TV's glowing pain, or something with my setup?

thanks in advance.

No. It should be:

1-8: 94 47 0 68 89 41 n/a n/a

The rest are the same. What happened is it took a while to see those numbers in.

Your posting for the 103a SAT that carries local HD.
The 103b national HD transponders are 1-8, 9-14, 17& 24

I am having the same issue with all the new HD channels. I have a H20 (0x2021) and see the attached screen shot. I have a HR21 and all the new channles and 103b readings are fine. I tried a BBC from the HR21 and that did not help. I also re setup the receiver and made sure it was set for the 5lnb dish. I am trying not to call a CSR and go through that crap. Any more suggestions?

If nobody has told you yet, those are crap.
What are your cables like? multi switches?
Why I ask is you're missing a strange combination of transponders that do really relate to receiver problems or a problem with the dish.
This is very weird and need more info please.

I can see why you're having problems with those readings.
You need to have the dish realigned better or the cables fixed.

now I need a few min to eat dinner...

I dont have the 21...that was a typo. I have the HR20-700. Thast working fine. I just have plane jane H20 that isnt working. No multiswitch, just a standard install. 3 rooms. 1 HR20, H20 and a standard box. I have monster componet cables for the h20 and use HDMI on the Hr21. What more do you need?

I'll second that (minus the dinner part). Your signals are poo. You need an alignment.

Also all the original HD's worked. The new 206 and 209 ESPN's work but none of the other new hd's.

That is a pain! What should I expect to see after the realignment is done?

Nowadays D**TV charges a fee to dispatch someone over. It would be helpful to know what I should expect before paying them.

any suggestions?

From your pic of transponders, there is something really wrong. You've got 80-90s on some but 0 on others that you should have.
Time to take your "plain Jane" over to your HR-20 slot [that works?] and see what you get over there. Swap cables and BBCs, then try your old BBC and see what will make it work [or not].
You may have a bad box, but it too early to tell yet.

Mine are in the high 80s to mid 90s.

I just got the BBC last month. I didnt need one for the original HD channels.

Everything looks ok except the reception in slightly bad weather become worse.
Damn, I hate to go through this paid service call. In my over 10 years with D**TV, I haven't had anything like this.

thx.

Ah you tried to screw me up here by replying to a post to another member...

You can either try to fine tune it yourself, or call D*. If you're within the 90 days it will be free, but if not then that's why they offer the "protection plan".

You didn't mean to respond to mine? Sorry. I did check the BBC and there is no issue I can think of.

I might have to call them up for help. I hate it. how much is it? for CNNHD? The only reason is it might fix the bad weather sensitivity problem. ....

thanks.

1-What I meant was the quote of mine that you used was my reply to Pizzle_Wizzle, who's problem is different than yours, so when I read your rely to me, at first I was replying to Pizzle_Wizzle.
Most likely your dish is around one degree out of alignment. The BBC is used for the 103b SAT, and the early ones that came with the boxes haven't worked that well. D* will send out a free replacement.
2- Service calls are $70-75 without the protection plan. If you have a "bad weather sensitivity problem", then that also points to needing a dish alignment.

VOS, you'll note that jiyu2000 also has the "odd/even disparity problem." Even after a proper re-alignment, I'm not real hopeful for that LNB evening out in the 80's and 90's. A lot of those with the odd/even problem of a particular brand don't seem to be able to get out of the 70's....

Based on the numbers you posted in the other thread, it looks like you've got either diplexers or cable TV-type splitters (possibly hidden and unknown to you) in the line to the H20.

Those levels are so low, I'm not sure if it's an odd/even issue or just that it's so out of alignment.

Strange, for sure.
Why would you think this?
My guess is if either of these were in place, then the whole band would be gone.
Some of the 250-750 MHz signals are coming in strong while others are zero. They're not even/odd, so that isn't it.
Still

First, the few that are there aren't that great. But there's "holes" in the tp panel where's there's just nothing there at all. I've seen that before where there are cable TV splitters in a coax line. Certain frequencies are attenuated, while others are not. Diplexers also can cause this phenomenon.

"Got it"
Certain frequencies cancel, while others don't [all due to bad impedance matching].
