I am really tired of the bugs...

I taped a block of christmas shows saturday on TV land. Plamnning on archiving these to videotape. Now I watched some of it live. When I was around I caught maybe 3 parts. Tried to watch it today in its entirety, while decorating. The stupid box only recorded the first few shows, then degenerated into pixels and finally quit.

Odd thing though since I saw some of those shows live while they were supposedly recording.

Have others successfully recorded blocks of time? Or did i just discover a NEW bug?

Is the TIVO really as stable as it appears? I am really tired of stuff like this. I shouldnt have to record everything I really want on every PVR I own in the hopes I get a successful recording...

Its first pixeled, then eventually stoppped altogether with acquiring sat please wait. Is this a known bug?

I have recorded blocks of shows twice - on TV land and FX with my 508. No problems to report other than the description is not always correct for the episode on. But that is not a 508 problem.

My wife noticed the pixel; areas mimicked the screen saver before the whole thing quit.

I actually recorded a lot of stuff from TV Lands MerryThon yesterday with no problems. Some good stuff aired. :)

No problems with anything.

Bob - Based on the description on the problems you're having, I don't think it's a receiver issue (or at least not a PVR problem). I think you've got a dish or cabling problem that is causing your receiver to loose the sat and have to reacquire. Have you confirmed that there's nothing blocking your reception, and that the cables and connections are all good?

Signal strength over 100 on all non spot transponders. Cable perhaps? But its a isolated problem to 721. Everything else is working fine. SW64s well I always suspect them. Odd though that the pixeled area matched the appearance of the scrreen saver before the recording died.....

Those who had input 1 troubles on their 721 how did you know it?

Bob, the screen saver only appears if you leave a menu up on the screen. Did you have a menu up on your screen when you had this problem?

I honestly dont know. I may try that today, tape a bunch of meaningless stuff and see if I can duplicate the problem.

I was in and oiut doing a wide variety of things, interrupted by phone calls, its certinally possible.

I might have paused it for a call, then turned it off paused and gone on to other things...

Thanks Bob, that give the 721 guys a better idea of whats going on with your unit. :)

Sounds like it could be an input 1 issue.

one caused problems on my SW64. I am trying to duplicate the problem but will put my 721 on the twin. My wife doesnt like that since she records sky angel stuff on there.

Signal strength appears fine. Advanced tech guys are going to attempt to reproduce my problem at home. They said the recording got corrupted, the fix is to delete it.

I may have left a menu up when it happened. They seemed interested in that. After all I was in and out, paused the recording doing 5 things at once.

In any case I will try recording on Video tape my input 1 signal strength over many hours. What transponder on input one often fails?

I will also try reproducing the failure by taping a block of time while leaving a menu up or screen saver mode.

The pixeled area mmicjked the painting design of the saver exactly.

Bob I think when you said that it died on a screen saver that opened up something about your problem.

Some problems are hard to track down unless all the facts are known and what was going on with the receiver.

I am glad that we have made some progress to see better whats going on. Hopefully that give the 721 team a better clue of whats going on with your receiver.

Happy Holidays!

When my tuner 1 finally was on it's last legs, the signal strength stayed good for no more then 2 minutes for a couple days in a row. Then through some miracle is was rock steady for 3 days before getting bad again. Even easier then staring at point dish menu, is put up the pip with same channel as main, and see if one pixelates or drops out..
