Louisiana seems to be around an area that has some space to fill on the spotbeams, if I'm not mistaken? Maybe Tony could tell us if there's space for New Orleans?

There's a whole beam that covers New Orleans on 110. It hasn't been activated yet.

Dish was wanting to add N.O. back in 1999. The local TV stations (ALL of the networks) told Dish to shove it. Dish left and hasn't come back since. I don't know if Dish is looking into it again, but there is plenty of room for N.O., Shreveport and Baton Rouge.
NOTICE: I DID NOT SAY THAT DISH WOULD BE ADDING THESE MARKETS! :)

Any chance of Dish adding Augusta, GA locals? (Yeah, I'm asking again (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9022#post64180)...) I emailed them a week or so ago and they just gave me a vague "Well, we might be negotiating with your local stations but we can't say because you might be an evil DirecTV spy but we're confident we can provide your locals someday" that smacked strongly of form letter. Can anyone tell me if they actually are going to add Augusta locals at any point in the future (no matter how distant) or if they just tell everyone that? I'm suspecting the latter...

It is not on the list of "Possible additions (http://ekb.dbstalk.com/19#chat)" released on the December 2001 Charlie Chat. What ever that means any more. Things change constantly.
If it means anything, all the cities added this year were on the list. But there are a couple of cities rumored to be coming that are not on the list. Tyler (TX), Chico (CA) come tight to mind.
Also remember that this information was dependant on the now failed merger with DirecTV.

Tony, what is your source for the 1999 information on New Orleans. 3 of the 4 network stations are owned by national companies with whom Dish has retrans with in other markets and probably has a national deal. WWL (CBS - Belo), WDSU (NBS - Hearst-Argyle), WGNO (ABC - Tribune). The Fourth is WVUE, FOX, which is owned by Emmis. I know Dish and Emmis worked out a deal in Orlando but this may be the a sticking point. There are also 2 worthy independents WNOL (WB - Tribune), WUPL (UPN - Viacom), a PAX and two PBS but I really do not think these are the problem. I've tried to get info out of Dish as to what the problem is but that was a no go!

I had the wrong year. N.O. was considered BERFOE Cincinnati was added. Hearst was a problem with Dish until they worked out a deal for the Cincinnati and Greenville NBC affiliates. Both of these markets went on without NBC for a while.
At the time Belo and Dish were having issues. They still are, but they are hamering them out without holding the viewers hostage.
Emmis is still refusing retrans on a few other local stations throughout the country.
Essentially Tribune was the only company Dish could deal with at the time was Tribune.
Other cities Dish passed up due to similar circumstances, Madison, Milwaukee, Baltimore and Columbus (OH). ...and more recently Memphis, Lexington.

Send an email to each station manage and ask them, also letting them know you want your locals thru Dish and do not appreciate them holding things up.

I still have about 5 months. I would like to switch to Direct , because they have my locals, but you get stuck with the $240.00 cancellation fee. If you know a way out, I would like to know. Thanks
What about Lexington, KY??
