View Full Version : No audio on OTA recordings

Since L4.46 my OTA recordings have no audio. This is only on ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox. I have other OTA recordings that are fine. I can watch as they are recording and there is audio. I reset HDMI (I don't know why) and still no audio. I have rebooted, rescanned locals and power cord reset. After the power cord reset it seemed to have worked for a few hours. I am connected via HDMI to a Sony TV.
Any suggestions/help will be much appreciated. Otherwise, it's CSR-land.

Yes, most likely one OTA station has something wrong in their digital data stream that is affecting the audio. What you need to do is find out which OTA channel is causing the problem, then do not tune to that channel or you will lose audio on all the other channels. PBS is causing this problem in my DMA.

Delete all your OTA channels. Add one back at a time. If it has audio, add another one back, and so forth. Do this until you discover which channel doesn't have audio. You may have to tune to the different OTA channels after you add more than one of them back to see which one loses audio first. Once you determine the problem channel, remove that channel. Once audio is lost, you will have to do a power button reboot to get the audio back for the good channels.

Once you figure out which stations is causing the problem, you should contact that station let them know that something in their signal is killing the audio.

You should also report the problem to Dish Network Tech Support.

Wow, you nailed that one. I discovered that once I record anything from a channel that is affiliated with MyNetworkTV, recorded programs from the major networks no longer have audio. This particular channel is a sister station of our NBC affiliate. Once this happens, I must do a power cord reset to get the audio back. Thanks for your help. I don't think I would have figured this one out by myself. I still think it has to do with firmware version L4.46 since that is when it started happening and I recorded the program from MyNetworkTV previous to the download with no problems. Again, thanks.

I don't know why I should tell my PBS station that something is wrong with their audio stream, when it was fine under L4.45. The problem isn't with my local station it is with the new software.

I am having the same problem with my local NBC affiliate. It was working just fine last night and then they updated to L4.46 and now I have no audio on my local NBC.

Yeah, I agree. I have submitted it to AV-Quality at Dish. They have forwarded it to the software group. I doubt me calling WATL is going to do anything but inform me that it's Dish's problem.

I too have lost audio on OTA channels for at least CBS and NBC. (I haven't tried tuning ABC).

I find it hard to believe that two MAJOR networks would simulatniously change there audio stream... it's seems more likely that once I received the latest 622 Ver4.66 update I lost audio.

I have the same problem. Had my 722 and 211 installed last Tuesday. Worked fine till overnight Thursday. Called tech on Friday and was rudley told that it was my locals problem. I said how could it be since the 211 was working fine The OTA receiver built into my Mitsu dlp was also working fine. Called again on Sat and got a woman who was willing to listen. She said they would send me a new unit.
Then I found out about the software problem and called tecg back yesterday. The tech said he had no info on the software problem.

Strange thing is I get sound on 2 out of the local PBS's 4 feeds.

I called DISH today. Tech said they are aware of the problem. Hopefully, the issue will be fixed this week.

boylehome's solution works for me. CW channel 46 (atlanta) was causing loss on audio recordings for me. Hopefully this will stay fixed.

I received L447 on two of my ViP622 receivers. The audio problem is gone. The problem seems fixed. It is very good that the fix came so quickly.
