Ok, had a slimline dish and HR20 installed back in August. Had recently had some issues with the new HD channels. Had a tech out and we found the problem to be my multiswitch in the basement, it wasn't wideband.
So he temporarily installed a Zinwell 6x8, until I could get the Zinwell 6x16.
Before we discovered the wideband issue, he forced a software download.(and of course I don't remember the version that was intalled, before or after).
This was on 10/13. On 10/19, I swapped out the switch for the 6x16.
Since the software download especially, audio on MPEG4 channels gets scrambled. Brief periods of garbled audio litter recorded shows(not sure about live). This seems to be most prevalent(though I can't confirm that its exclusive) on NBC owned broadcasts(NBC, USA, SciFi, etc).
Monday's Heroes recording was a newer problem. The audio was out of sync, badly at times. This happened once before, during a recording of the premiere of Bionic Woman. But that incident I explained away as interference from a storm at the time. There was no storm monday at 9. By the end of the show, audio seemed to have re-synced itself.
So, while I'm writing this and layout the details of recent changes to the system, there was another issue too.
During Sunday's NFL games, one of the games I had interest in was not available in HD. So, I changed my format button to put it in 1080i Pillar Box, as SD football games in stretch REALLY look horrible when switching to/from HD. Pillar box helps a little.
But on Sunday...twice, the software well, when batty. Suddenly I can't bring up info, or guides. Or the interactive stuff. For a short period, I can change channels by punching in the number directly. Eventually, the luck runs out, and I get just a grey screen with audio. Reboot the box and all is OK. As I said, this happened twice. After the second reboot, I stopped using Pillar box, and all was well the remainder of the day.
Any help diagnosing these problems is greatly appreciated.
