I have an old DirecTiVo box that I hooked up to my new DirecTV system today (not the new access card in the mail this afternoon). The TiVo is fired up - receiving DirecTV programming, and allowing me to setup recordings. I got a message saying a Daily Call needs to be made "soon". I can not get the TiVo to call out via my AT&T CallVantage.
I had it plugged into a phone jack that was right next to the machine - no go.
I hooked up an old RCA Insta-jack - no go.
I've tried changing the dialing prefixes - I tried #099, #096 - I tried them together and separately.
I tried turning off call waiting - #70
I turned off "phone available" detection.
Nothing seems to work.
Any ideas for getting this machine to call in while using AT&T CallVantage?
BTW - I've had CallVantage for about six months, I never had any problems with my DISH DVRs calling in via the service.

When I had CallVantage...
Nothing I did could help me get the TiVo to go out over it.
And it is VERY hit or miss with other VoIP providers.
Check.. www.tivocommunity.com for additional assitance on ideas on how you can possibly get it to dial out.

I was actually over at tivocommunity.com entering a new thread about this when you responded. Great minds think alike!

I ended up taking my TiVo out to my Mom's house this afternoon to hook it up to a landline. It called out to the (800) numbers without a problem, downloaded a software update, and did all of it's housekeeping. I forced a reset, which installed the software update, and reloaded a database. The software update / database reload took about 30 minutes.
I'd read over at the TiVo Community Forums that there was a NYC Phone number for calling in that was VoIP friendly. So while I had the use of a landline, I downloaded the (212) local call in numbers. Since I have unlimited long distance with the CallVantage VoIP I don't care if it's calling local in Detroit, or out to NYC every night.
When I got home and hooked TiVo back up, the daylight savings time had been corrected, all timers set for tomorrow are back to the correct time.
I tested the phone connection from home with my CallVantage and it worked perfectly. Test SUCCESSFUL! So I forced another Daily Call just to make sure it worked like it should, and it did.
My dial out setting using CallVantage now look like this -
Number: 1 (212) 238-4220
Prefix: ,#019 (pause # 0 1 9)
Call Waiting: (none)
Tone/Pulse: TONE
Detect Phone Available: ON
Detect Dial Tone: OFF
Back in business!
I'd forgotten how much I liked my TiVo. The DISH and DirecTV DVRs are nice, but there's something about this TiVo I can't put my finger on, that I like a lot better. It might just be the interface - very friendly, very easy to use. I'm glad TiVo is back to working shape - here's hoping it runs for a VERY long time!!! *knocks on wood*

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try this number on mine. Nothing I have tried has gotten it to make a call with Vonage.

While trying to find info about AT&T CallVantage, I stumbled on a lot of suggestions for Vonage as well. They all said for Vonage that you have to enter a different dial out prefix - I think it was *99. I do remember one of the post saying that tells the Vonage TA to get ready to receive data, then that makes it work right.
You might try the ,#019 as well - that tells the TiVo to send data at a slower speed. Supposedly VoIP can not transmit data as fast as a landline, so we have to tell the TiVos to slow down. If I were you, I'd try a dial out prefix of *99,#019 (* 9 9 [pause] # 0 1 9). And try connecting to that NYC (212) phone number.
If you have to, take your TiVo to someone's house with a landline, have it call out, get the (212) phone numbers, then bring it home and hook it back up to your Vonage. That worked for me with CallVantage.
Good luck! I hope the (212) phone number works for you as well as it's worked for me!

Wow, it worked. Thanks so much for the information. My box has been sitting there for almost a year only able to use live tv because I couldn't complete setup after a hard drive failure.

:hurah: {SWEET!)
Glad I could help! After the miserable week I've had dealing with DirecTV CSRs, I'm glad I could help someone else out!!!
Happy TiVo-ing!!!

sNEIRBO, did you ever sign-on to your callvantage account and enable fax modem service? There is no additional charge to enable it, but it is not enabled by at&t automatically. If you have a Linksys wireless 2A (discontinued) you are screwed, the firmware on the 2A only supports 9600 to 14.4kb sync period. Only the D-link 1120m & 5102s do (non-wireless) TA's will sync up to 28.8kb / drop back to 19.2kb on re-sync.

Fax/Modem support has been turned on since day 1. I work out of my house so I have to fax a lot to get work done. Never had a problem with faxing.
As you can see a few posts up, everything is straightened out and running GREAT now.
