I really enjoyed the last one and hope to see many more.

The "Survivor" torch is still burning brightly, as the fifth edition of the reality adventure series drummed up big ratings for CBS on Thursday.

One night later, NBC caught a ratings bouquet with the two-hour "Providence" wedding finale.

Airing opposite mostly repeats on the other networks but during a relatively low-viewing time of year, "Survivor: Thailand" (8-10:06 p.m.) wrapped before an average of 24.08 million viewers and generated a 9.9 rating/26 share among adults 18-49, according to Nielsen. Last May's finale of "Survivor: Marquesas" drew 25.9 million viewers and a 10.4/23 in the key demo.

Ratings for the finales of "Survivor" have generally been drifting downward since the original edition commanded whopping numbers in the summer of 2000, but the series remains remarkably resilient. Before its finale, it ranked sixth among all primetime series in adults 18-49 and fourth in total viewers.

The "Survivor" reunion show that followed (10:06-11 p.m.) also did very well, averaging a 9.2/24 in adults 18-49 and 20.43 million viewers overall. Hosted this time by "Survivor" frontman Jeff Probst, the special retained 93% of the finale's 18-49 lead-in -- the best performance ever for the postgame show relative to the finale.

CBS topped its combined major-network rivals on the night in adults 18-49 (9.7/26 to 8.5/22).

Damn, I hate reality tv. I guess I'll just have to learn to like American Idol. :bang:

I see Star Search is coming back, but no mention of Ed McMahon. I think Ed McMahon was Star Search. Without him it's going to be just another talent show.

i WISH that the amazing race would catch on-THIS show is actually much more interesting than survivor and has rules that actually make sense...if you haven't seen it, catch it at least once...

I like Survivor, one of my "Guilty Pleasures". I would like to see "Survivor Arctic" during the middle of Winter. I spent 3 years in Alaska serving Uncle Sam and it is butt freezing cold up there.

We had to learn how to survive in this harsh environment and it was not fun, but I would do it again for a Million buck$.

Whatever happened to good shows like Charlies Angels, Petticoat Junction and Good Times?

HEAR HEAR , regarding The Amazing Race. That show is my absolute favorite and I really REALLY enjoy it.

Regarding Survivor I enjoy this show a lot as well. I am glad that the ratings are holding and am NOT suprised at the increased ratings on the reunion show. FINALLY THEY GOT A CLUE and let Jeff host it. Bryant Clueless Gumbel and I won't even say the name of the last person to host it were all about them rather than the show.

I have to say that this cast was my least favorite of all of them. I am one of the stupid viewers who look for some sort of honor and upfrontness in the people playing. I'm not saying that they shouldn't play the game but if they should play with some form of ethics.
Even CLAY had some sort of ethics (not quite sure what they are but...) We knew where he stood from day one. Brian on the other hand just really lost all my respect, actually all 4 of the final 4 did when they voted ted off. I don't care that they voted him off, but Ted asked Brian point blank and Brian lied. Helen did the same thing.
ah,,,, ain't it wonderful!
Looking forward to Survivor: Amazon and AMAZING RACE 4 (WHEN?????)

John

The new Star Search is nothing more than CBS's attempt to compete with American Idol.
