Hello guys,

New here, great forum, lots of good information. I live in an apartment and they have rules of no dish to be mounted outside the building. I was wondering if I can install the DISH inside the apartment facing a window and pointing to towards the sky. I am new to the satelite tv world so excuse my noob questions.

I have also read that the dish needs to be pointed towards a certain direction, is there a website where I can find out which window in my house is facing which direction.

My main reason for trying to get satalite tv is becuase of the international program that I can receive, will that require additional dish.

Thanks

It technically can work inside, but it's much too difficult to do and you're not going to find an installer that will do it, because it really won't be worth having. Do you have a patio or balcony area for your apartment that is just yours (meaning not-shared with other apartments and not the walkway in front of your apartment door) that faces south? If so, you can put a dish there as long as it is not mounted to the building and not hanging over property that is not yours. Unless your building has some sort of "historical protection" they can't tell you you can't install a dish. I don;t have the exact documents in front of me, but I am sure someone will pipe in with the exact FCC regulations about what an apartment complex or HOA can and can't restrict.

Many people put a bucket of concrete with a pole sticking out of it on their balcony and place their dish there, or put a tripod on their patio.

He will never be happy with his service if he attempts a concrete bucket mount with the 36" International ODU, unless there is another way to secure it. If the bucket was a sole option, I would take a chimney mount kit, secure that to the railing and pole coming from the bucket. The would satisfy the common space requirement by keeping the ODU inside the balcony. If that requirement is lax, I would clamp the 1 3/4" pole for the 36" ODU to the corner of the balcony and that would be it. Probably the best option if possible. Good luck getting the average HSP installer to do that. Will NOT be free... and will not have equipment (95% chance) the first time...
