Hey ever think about how valuable this site and others are to the providers?
We answer tech questions for free, and sometimes better than their paid staff:( Cuts down on call volume, they certinally like that...
We are a QC division for tech problems. Noisey channel 4 in pittsburgh? Read about it here first, and hae uplink take care of it.
We err give them the "customers " viewpoint on business policies.. They may not like what we say but still need to take oit in consideration.... I hope:)
We collectively must generate some sales for E, even if were not involved with dish at all directly. About a week ago I was at Radio Shack and made a sale for E. The salesperson adnmitted he was clueless and suiggested since I know so much I should work there. He admitted he had NO training at all. I felt sorry for him.

Here, here!!!
I ll drink to that...
Cheers, cheers!!
I called the local RS to purchase a 508. The sales rep said they didn't sell the 508..only thing they sell is the Dish 500. I said thanks, and courteously said goodbye. It is obvious that these folks are given very little information on the products they are selling.
haha I worked at RS for a bit and let me tell you most of the sales people are DUMB. I had to explain to them that DISH 500 was the DISH.. and the 301 was the receiver and the 508 was the PVR. They still didn't get it. Then again RS people aren't the brightest crayons in the box.

I have been working with a local retailer, who I bought my 6000 from, answering HD questions for some of his customers.
I don't mind a few phone calls or e-mails. Most of them really appreciate the help, especially when they finally get CBS- HD activated after several phone calls to clueless Dish CSR"s!
I point most of them to DBS Talk and AVS Forums for the latest information.
Maybe I can get a discount on my next receiver! :)

Back on topic E really should, BEFORE designing new PVRs or plain receivers ask us what features we want.
I mean here they have a bunch of interested, motivated subs who would likely enjoy goiving engineering something to dream of.
It sure couldnt hurt. It would be better to introduce new boxes that have the features desirable when first shiopped rather than adding them later piecemeal creating bugs and unhappy subs along the way.
This just causes added call center volume and irritated high end subs when your talking about a receiver like a 721.
The ability to upgrade software shouldnt be a EXCUSE to ship it incomplete...

AVSForum doesn't have the trailing S
so it's www.avsforum.com
You should also point them to www.tivocommunity.com should they be interested in getting a PVR. The DirecTV with TiVo section also has alot of information on DirecTV, and not just TiVo.

I do think that this site is of value to Dish Network, and I have been told by a few people at DirecTV that its a value to them too.
People often wonder why we have more Dish Network stuff here then DirecTV, and the best answered with an email I got a few months ago from a contact at DirecTV. In the last year the company was at a stand still because of the merger so there was nothing really to report, when we had news to bring you about DirecTV we posted it here first. Part of the problem with DirecTV is it seems there is no communication at DirecTV, when new products come out chances are consumers know more about them then the folks at DirecTV do.
One of our staff members Neil Derryberry has been working hard to bring us DirecTV news and has been doing a good job at it. Again the problem is news is slow to come out of DirecTV. If we had more to pass along to you from them we would, but since most of the time they don't know, we don't know. (It's a catch 22)
Now back to Echostar, we are proud to be working with them with the 721. We hope people consider us the place on the Internet for 721 information. We are working to open the doors with the 501/508 team soon as well. We feel that any support we can provide here will ultimately save Dish Network money in calls to their call centers. And that's a good thing!
We also plan to bring you the first looks at upcoming Dish Network products, as they have some exciting new products coming out next year.
If any company or dealer would like to Ship DBSTalk.COM a unit for testing and review we would be happy to give your business credit as we have in the past for Dish Depot which helped us aquire one of the first 721 units. We are also looking for some DirecTV prizes for a few of our upcoming contests. With almost 7 million hits a month here at DBSTalk.COM the donation of a receiver is a really cost effective advertisement for your company. :)
Once again I would like to point out that while we are not supported financially by any of the satellite companies, and we exsist through the kind donations of our members. None of our staff is paid in any way. We do it for nothing because we enjoy helping others out. I guess when you think of it, thats our ultimate Christmas gift to everyone.
Happy Holidays Everyone!I

I think those that have Dish is more interested in it as a hobby and gets more involved with it, and having a Charlie Chat where Charlie gets more involved helps as well. Maybe it is because there is more problems with Dish product than Direct's. Also Dish tends to come out with interesting things first, at least in the past, such as the dishplayer.
Or it could be DirecTV is a much easier system to install and service.......no special switches....... one system (Dish. has Dish Pro and legacy) need I go on? DirecTV is great for the hobbyist, and Dish network is great for Dishnetwork, try to buy a basic LNB for Dish.where do you get it and how much would it cost......If you need a new LNB for DirecTV you can get them almost anyplace for $40...... I rest my case!

Well if its a basic single or dual LNB, then you can buy them any place that sells DirecTV LNBs since they're the same thing. With DirecTV some subs still do need switchs, but now with the new 18x20" D* Plus dishes that have all three LNBs in one housing with built in switchs installation is made simpler, unless you want to connect a larger number of tvs. I don't know how it is in other areas, but you can't find the normal 18" DirecTV dishes for sale anymore, since locals are on 119.
On RadioShack, I've delt with many clueless sales people there. Including the one guy who didn't know what toslink was and the guy who asked me what firewire is all about. But I've also delt with many good people who know their stuff. I think it all has to do with interest. If someone is interested in electronics they will make a good and helpful employee, but if you have someone that could careless and got all their knowlegde from training tapes, that's when you have a problem.
RS Manager: What experience do you have with electronics?
Applicant: I plugged in my 13" TV.
RS Manager: Ah, that's good. Have you ever connected a VCR to your TV?
Applicant: You can do that?
RS Manager: Sure. Are you willing to work 40 hours a week with no pay, just commission on sales?
Applicant: Why, sure!
RS Manager: You are dumber than I thought. You're hired.

You know, I looked at applying to work at RS a while back, but read the fine print of their employment application first. I discovered that it gives a strange right to you and to them. They may fire an employee for any cause or no cause at all, and by the same token, an employee may quit for any cause or no cause at all.
I don't want to work for a business that places no trust in its employees.

Actually, that "strange right" is true in most jobs. It's called "Right-to-work". Some states have even made it law which causes unions fits because they can no longer be closed shops - the employee has the right not to join the union as well...

This is known as "At Will Employment".
I have worked under this for many years now... and love it.
Any employee (even management) may terminate his/her employment at any time for any reason. The "Company" may also terminate their business relationship with employees at any time for any reason.
Under this law, the employee is the company.
You can even play ball with the boss.
Tends to create a great work enviroment, too.
OK, fire back now, you union sympathizers !!!!

I asked a RS salesman about a docking port for my digital camera. He said he didnt know as he was a seasonal employee. A voice from the back chimed in but he has been here 2 years.
Neither of them had any idea what I was talking about:(
I told them Ive got questions you got blanlk stares. They thought it really funny....

Reminds me of how Dish does not consider the retailers their employees yet they treat us like we are. They do not want lawsuits.
