Xbox or GameCube or Playstation2?

I am seriously thinking about buying a new game system for Christmas. Any gamers out there? What system would you buy?

I want a GameCube. It's faster and cheaper and has a game lineup as good as the PS2. It's got a better game lineup and is cheaper than the Xbox. And Xbox is Microsoft. Think about all the problems in Windows. And in the DISHPlayer.

I am thoroughly enjoying my Playstation 2. Don't have any reason to get any other game system. I don't spend alot of time on playing games so buying into another type of game system like X-box would be a waste of money.

I saw the X Box last night at the local Toys R Us they were just setting it up. Boy this box is BIG it does not look like a Video Game machine at all thats how big it is.

But Madden 2002 looks so real that I may have to get one of those babies.

Im not a big time gammer. I have 2 PC games and I have an old Sega Genesis system that I play ocasionally. The only games I play are Mortal Kombat 1&3. ( I was never able to find MK 2) and Road Rash (all 3 for Sega and 1 for PC) I would like to get some 1st person shooter games or Diablo or something to test my graphics card out. From what I hear I like , PS2 but I hardly ever play video games.

I thought the Gamecube was a step below both the PS2 and the X-box, technology speaking anyway.

I admit though, that Nintendo has the lock on available games and franchises. Oh, there's tons of games for PS and PS2, but Nintendo seems to have that 'cuteness' factor that my daughter would rather have over both PS2 and the Xbox. I'm leaning toward the Xbox myself.

Anyone heard of a price decrease for PS2? I can't imagine that with the GameCube coming out at 199, and the Xbox at 299, that the PS2 will stay at 299 for much longer. Wishful thinking?

No, the GameCube is a much better platform (technology-wise) than PS2 and at least equal, if not greater than X-box. It also has more kids games and more fun games, but less violent junk:) It can't, however, play movies, but this is because Nintendo used a custom disc, instead of standard DVDs (on the plus side the custom discs are tiny:) . The only disadvantage to the GameCube is it's custom disc holds "only" 1.5GB. It will be a LONG time before games even dream of reaching this however, as it's 3 CDs!

I would of thought that someone brought to us by Bill Gates would at least have a CAPS LOCK button on their keyboard (and know how to use it!)

I now have all 3 game systems, Playstation 2 (which is mounted in my truck) XBOX which is hooked up to my HD set in the living room and Gamecube which is hooked up in my sons room.

The XBOX is my favorite, Playstation 2 comes in second and Gamecuber comes in 3rd. My 8 year old is bored of the game cube games already.

The gamecube would have been better if they had a cartidge slot so that folks could play their old N64 games. in my sons room he now has 3 video games hooked to one tv (He has Gamecube, Nintendo 64 and a Playstation)

I like the gameplay and graphics on the XBOX better then the playstation 2 however Playstation 2 has one big edge in that it can play all the old Playstation games we have in our collection. The big downside of the Playsation 2 is that it is mounted in my truck, we did this because we have a large playstation game collection that my son loves to play, I had a 7 inch TV mounted on the roof of my truck so he could play games in the truck, we chose the Playstation 2 in the truck as it also played DVD's which my wife likes to watch when we go on long road trips. (we also have a nintendo 64 in the truck)

I almost purchased an XM radio today for the but held off against it for now. I want to get a flat mount dish and put a Dish Network reciever in my truck, now that would be cool. (My wife is HIGHLY against this!) hehe

The Playstation 2 is mounted under the back seat. The TV flips down from the roof of the truck and I cant see it when I am driving (you must be in the back seat to see it)

The audio is wired in to my car stereo (The audio from the Playstation2 is in Stereo as well!)

If I dont want to hear sounds of Crash Bandicot the kids can put on wireless headphones and I can listen to whatever I want on my radio.

Sure keeps my 8 year old quiet on long trips. :D

Because a war injury affects my coordination (not to mention my spelling), I am not much a a player of action/arcade games. I prefer strategy and games wher one has time to think rather than those which operate at the spinal level.

Nonetheless, some of the graphics on these machines are awesome. when my grandkids get to be old enough to play them, I'll probably install one for them to use when they visit.

OK.I'll be honest from wut i have played the xbox is better then PS2 in most ways.I have a PS2 cuz i couldnt find an xbox.i hate to admit this but xbox is better.i went to target and all 3 systems (PS2,XBOX, and Gamecube) were right next to each otha.I first started with XBOX and that second i could tell it was better than PS2.Bu not big time.then i played the GC and it was the same as PS2.Then (since i've played PS2 considerin i got it) i analyzed all 3 systems.Graphic wise (which most people use to judge it goes 1-XBOX then for 2-PS2 and GC tie.Then convenience wise it goes 1-XBOX then 2-PS2 then 3-GC.this has been totally honest and i hate to admit to this buti just want u other people to know wutever u buy it is worth ur money they r all great systems.Play On!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HEY... why don't you upgrade/buy a computer... there better anyways, but if you must... i think both xbox and gamecube are generally the same just there games are different..... Sure they have different hardware types but really the games have same graphics... quality... sound on both since when people make games for a console they dont have to worry about consoles having different hardware parts like computers, they can just program a game that will directly run of a consoles hardware while computers have to have drivers to connect windows and the comps hardware which the games then have to utilize. Try games for all the consoles and if you like games for a certain console more than the other then get that console...

Look. I like Gamecube and Playstation and Xbox about equal. What I think is really sad is how people are turning on each other just because of their choice in video games. I think that Gamecube is the best because it's much more powerful than the PS2 in every way, and the Gamecube's $130 cheaper than a DVD movie playing X-Box. Some people say that Gamecube's no good because it only has 1.5 gig discs while X-Box and PS2 have 4.7 gig discs. That really doesn't matter too much because you can just make a game using 3 gamecube discs and it will be the same size as 1 PS2 or X-Box disc.
Like 98% of PS2 and X-Box games are probably under 1.5 gig anyway.
The other advantage that Gamecube has over PS2 is that Gamecube does Progressive SCAN and PS2 only does old fashoined interlaced scan so Gamecube is way better on a Digital or HDTV.
The biggest advantage that Nintendo has over everyone is that Nintendo has the best first party software on the planet.
In fact Nintendo is the #1 videogame software publisher on the planet.
When you look at the list of the top 20 selling videogames of all time, most of them were published by Nintendo.
Powerhouses like Zelda, Mario, and Donkey Kong top such lists of most popular games and videogame characters of all time. Gamecube is also the only console with the most highly anticipated game of the new century Metroid Prime.
Nintendo is also going to make many more violent and more mature games for older gamers for this new generation.
As sucessful as Sony is, Nintendo has ALWAYS been #1 because Nintendo has 3 of the top 5 systems(Gamecube, Gameboy Advance, and Gameboy color), while Sony just has 1 of the top 5 selling systems(PS2). People don't realize it, but Nintendo has never lost its title as the #1 videogame hardware and #1 videogame software manufacturer ON THE PLANET. Sony did win one battle against Nintendo by Playstation 1 being the best selling home console of the generation, but Nintendo still won the war by making more money from Videogames by having the #1 selling(Gameboy Color) and the #3 selling(N64) systems of the last generation as well as being the #1 videogame publisher on the planet, and Nintendo raked in tons of dough from the Pokemon franchise. The only reasons Nintendo wasn't #1 in home consoles last generation were because Nintendo used carts instead of discs, Nintendo's games cost $10 to $20 more than PS1 games, and that Nintendo didn't have enough Mature and Violent games.
Nintendo has fixed all those problems with the Gamecube, and when Nintendo's heavy hitters like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, etc and also 3rd party Killer Apps are released for the Gamecube, then you will see Nintendo supplant PS2 as the best selling console in North America.

Well, I'm enjoying the heck out of Halo and Dead or Alive3 on my Xbox, but then, I never have enjoyed the 'cutesy' games such as Mario, Donkey Kong, etc.

I'm curious to see how the Japan Xbox launch goes tomorrow.

I predict it will be horrible. The Japanese won't like the XBox, or the company that made it, or the titles on it. The Japanese know and love Sony and Nintendo. Selling them an Xbox would be like trying to sell someone with a McLaren F1 an old beat-up Ford Escort. Not gonna happen. BTW, my Nintendo GameCube is AWESOME! But - I hold nothing against the Xbox people. I just don't think it's a good system, and I don't think it has many good games, and I think the controller is awful. If you disagree, that's your choice. All these console fights and immature posts are stupid because it doesn't matter. There's room for three consoles on the market in America so everyone can be happy. You don't see Charmin buyers insulting Quilted Northern buyers and calling them immature and bad names. The PS2 is by far the best console out there right now because they'll have the best games to play for awhile. Grand Theft Auto 3 is just incredible. I will buy a copy pretty soon I think. I've rented it 4 times and just running around without doing the missions is a blast.

As for the X-Box, I've rented it and I'm not too crazy about it right now. This unit has a lot of potential but the games will decide it in the end. The most powerful machine on the market usually fails or gets beat by machines with less power and better games.

So, it's too early to tell. It all comes down to the games. What good is a more powerful system if the games suck?

I really hated NFL Fever. One of the worst games ever. I rarely hate a game so much and as fast as I did this one. Halo was cool. Blood Wake could have been a hit but missed. Wreckless didn't thrill me either.

The Gamecube is ok, but the controller fills cheap to me. Madden 2002 plays much better with the PS2 controller. Madden will never work because there's not enough trigger buttons and using the Z to flip back and forth between options really sucked. Stars Wars was ok. Pikiman looked cool but the kid only played that. Overall, I wasn't crazy about it and have always hated Nintendo controllers. If they made a decnet controller then this would rank higher. Also it doesn't play DVD movies.

I'm happy with the PS2 and all the great games that are out for it. I can't wait to rent and play Hot Shots 3. State of Emergency is a blast if you like mindless violence. This game lets you seek out and destroy the corporation.LOL

XBOX game disk use up most of the data because of the large amount of detail in games like halo and stuff and then dolby digital 5.1 sound data (does gc have dolby digital -no)and will it have dvd quality cut seens no and if so it would have to use more game disk because of its small space.Xbox harddrive is not only for saves (8 gig harddrive-actualy 10 but 2gigs are used for fast loading game data[for less loading time] and user interface)it also will be used for add ons for games like extra characters and stuff, dead or alive 3 will get extra characters in the june issue of the xbox magizine (data is downloaded to hardrive)

It has no chance to ever overheat and it is soooo quiet. The vent even blows out COLD air. You will not find any indication of heat like you will on the XBox or Playstation 2. And Who needs a DVD player anyway? You can get one for a cheap price now anyways, and the XBox and Playstation 2 DVD players are horrible anyways. I meant under $100 dollars, creating the Gamecube + GOOD DVD Player under the total cost of the Playstation 2.

The Gamecube was also released in Japan and the UK as the Q, which was made by Panasonic and had a matrix display of what game or DVD was in so it could play DVDs and Gamecube games. And it only costed $260. And it was made by Panasonic, so I can guarantee you that it had better DVD quality than the Playstation 2 or XBox.

Was that they already have them on the list, that is 16 games, Playstation 2 and XBox currently have one(PS2) and zero(XBox). That is why they had such a poor release, just like PS2 did, but they had their year. XBox won't have their year because they made a bad release and have no good upcoming games. The only reason to ever get that system is for Halo, and that game gets old after completely beating it. Now, it's Gamecube's turn for a good year like PS2 had last year. I'm not saying that PS2's only good year ever will be last year, I'm just saying that the PS2 will not be leading the race THIS year.

Huh? The PS2's DVD player got ranked by the critics as "Mid-end" and I tend to agree with that review. The only problem with the PS2 is that it is noisy for DVD movies. I don't notice the noise during game playing.

So you would have to buy a $300 to $400 (at the time) unit to get the same or better quality DVD player that you already get with the $299 PS2. No $100 unit is going to rival the PS2. I have no idea how the X-box's DVD playback is because I never tried it.

Why buy a cheap DVD player when you can get a "mid-end" DVD player along with the a great game system like the PS2 for $299?

$299 is dirt cheap when the oringinal PSX was $299.

So there's a list of games that will be onlu on PS2 and/or Xbox. Both companies will have exclusives while many will be on all systems.

Both the X-box and Gamecube have a horrible release when it comes to games.

The PS2 probably had the best launch games ever for any system and anybody who says any different are either biased or stupid.

Nintendo has been the perennial losers when it comes to games at launch. The SNES was weak, the N64 launch sucked, the GBA is even worst than most since mostly the only good things to play on it are rehashed NES and SNES games. The Gamecube continues this sad tradition of a new system with nothing to play on it.

The PS2 had Madden 2001 (the best game ever at that time) along with NHL 2001 (the best hockey game since 16-bit Sega), SSX (WOW!), Nascar 2001, and a few others which made this the PS2 the best launch ever.

It won't happen. The PS2 will continue to outsell the Gamecube along with having the best games for it.
The best games made for the PS2 like Madden 2002, SSX Tricky and a bunch of others won't play very good on a system that has a controller that doesn't have enough buttons on it.

I beg to differ. The PS2 will be king this year. By the time the Gamecube and X-box gets any great game, the PS3 will be hitting the shelves.

Yes, a $100 dollar DVD player is better than th PS2 DVD Player, because I have a PS2 and 6 DVD Players, one in each room, they don't make any noise and the picture and sound are beautiful.

The PS2's release was just as bad as the XBox's or the Gamecube's, none of them had a good release.

The list of games I made was showing which games people have been waiting for since the release of the gamecube.

Sorry, the PS3 has a release date SET for 2006, and that is if they meet their schedule.

Most of the games that you mentioned came out in the Gamecube release too.

Also, the Gameboy Advance had sold three times more units than the PS2, THREE TIMES, and the GBA has only been out half of the time.

I would say you can't go wrong with any of the 3. I believe all will be around for some time. Just look at the available titles and decide which ones you like best and go with that system.

But just in case you need some persuading ;) I am really enjoying my Xbox! :lol:
