A while back they said Dallas was going to be one of the first areas but there's been zip since. I'm really anxious to get it if it's going to be faster than my DSL.
Hopefully, nothing will happen with BPL and D*. Current BPL technology hasn't proven itself yet to NOT provide RF interference to other services. Several test sites around the country have had to be terminated by the FCC due to interference.

The technology DTV intends to use is close to being blessed by the ARRL

Yes, that type of BPLfilters out the amateur frequency bands, but there are still other issues. In many*cases, BPL plans have been terminated because it wasn't economically viable.

The FCC hasn't been too keen on telling the test systems to comply with the already poor BPL regulations. For the most part BPL has been failing on its own. It is suseptible to much interference. One amateur radio operator with mobile shortwave (HF) transmit equipment can do a good job of wiping out BPL in an area. The medium voltage power lines that the initial systems intend to use provide just about zero shielding. Newer systems have been much better thought out in terms of interference mitigation.
(Also a ham here, I just want to keep my callsign private. Good luck to all in the CQ World Wide Contest this weekend.)
