I was just wondering if anyone from Portland, OR could comment on the average reception of Dish signals. Just wondering if the amount of rain the area gets affects the signal much (rain fade) or if it usually holds strong.

I'm in town visiting and might be helping family switch over from cable, but we want to know if the abundant clouds and rain will affect it.

Thanks,
-Pat

While I don't live in Portland, I can tell you that even the heaviest rain storms usually won't knock out the signal. Occasionally it will, but usually only for a min or two. I had more rainfade when I had cable (though it didn't affect every channel) in my last town. What I find WILL knock it out is a half-foot or so of snow buildup.

My mother in law has Dish in Portland, she loves it. I've seen it, looks great.

I live near Portland and haven't noticed any rain fade yet is the 7 months we have had the dish.

Yep, its fine. I haven't had any rain fade since last winter. And it wasn't for more than a couple minutes.

I had echostar service for two years in Portland, had only two brief outages on the 110 sat (each was less than 10 min), the channels on the 119 sat kept working...

I've lived here now for 3 years and lost my signal one time for about 5 seconds during the most horrific rainstorm Portland has ever seen. AT&T cable, on the other hand....... we all know how bad it is in this area.

Typical Pacific Northwest rain is not a problem. The big thunerhead clouds cause the worst problem with rainfade and we don't get them very often here in Oregon. The few times I have had "rainfade" is when it wasn't raining, but there were thunderheads between my dish and the satellites.
