Merry Christmas from Dish?

Did anyone else get the 4 minute interview with Patrick Roy placed on their PVR this morning? It was an ad for NHL Center Ice. Technically I don't mind this happening once in a while, but it seems like a slippery slope, I'd hate to see a bunch of random extras on my PVR list every morning when I turn on my TV.

Yes, it's a push download. Dish has done this twice before on the 501. For both times, it was to highlight the new features of the 501 PVR.

However, in order to receive the download, you had to have your receiver off, not have an event scheduled, etc. It would come out of the space of the drive reserved for Dish Network promotions.

Unlike an BBC episode of a sitcom where UK Tivo owners were unable to remove the recording for a week, it can be erased right away.

I would love to see Dish make available a "new user video" that is available for download on demand overnight from the customer service menu.

Hmm I now have a very good reason to never turn my receiver off like I do !

If you don't turn off the receiver, you won't get the full guide update or any firmware updates.
