One of my receivers only works on a few channels. It is a model 4000 The other receiver works just fine. I was wondering what could cause this problem. Is it likely to be a connection problem or is something wrong with the receiver? Any help would be appreciated.

Do the channels show up in the guide, but it can't tune to them? Or not show up at all?
Are you getting good signal strength on that box? If not, it might be a connection problem.
Try resetting it - pull the card and reinsert it.
Or call Dish and ask the CSR to resend the authorization codes to the box.

Go to your signal strength screen and see if some of the transponders are not coming in. It may be a wiring issue. Try swapping receivers to see if it happens in the other room with that same receiver or seeing if the receiver in the other room does it in the room you are having problems in now. This will tell you if it is a wiring issue (if the same problem comes up in the same room) or if it is a receiver issue (if the problem comes up in the other room with that same receiver).

Thanks for the advice. When checking the signal strength sometransponders show a good signal while others don't. What is likely to be the cause of this. Is it most likely a bad connector somewhere?

How about a complete signal report ?
FYI - on 119, Transponders 1,3,5,7, and 9 are spot beams, and 110 2,4,6,8, and 10 are spotbeams. If you aren't in the spot, you will get zero strength.

You need to connect the receiver up to another satellite connection to see if it does it at that location as well and connect up a different receiver in the room in which you have this receiver connected at now to pinpoint the problem.
