I checked, the tapes are over $1,000 for a one hour tape!

If I had the cash, I would get it just to show it off!

But why would you want it? It's used and at least partially broken (they admit one of the Digital XLR outputs is missing, and who knows what else happened - that could just be the only VISIBLE sign of the damage to the unit)

well, I mean this to be filed only under the "dreams" catagory. Kinda of like a GE TALARIA projector.

Kinda of like a GE TALARIA projectorI want one too. :D I really don't think I could afford the electrical charges each month though. :( I helped install one of these in the auditorium of a fraternal insurance company in Minneapolis a while back. Projection distance was over 100 feet from projector to screen. If I recall correctly, GE bought this technology from Hughes (Aircraft) before their involvement with GM and DirecTv.

well, ive seen them go on ebay for dirt cheap--untested units where the seller did not know what we has selling have gone for under $100, and working ones for under $500. I think it is the fact that the replacement bulbs cost so much. I hear the 1500watt Xenon bulb costs $30,000 and only lasts for a 1000 hours.

If you want a nice projector that's practical for home cinema installation, check out the Christie Digital Vivid White:) They even call it a home theater projector on many sites. It would be more than adequate for any HT. 7700 ANSI Lumens, 1600x1200 panel res, HDTV, DVI, 4-lamp operation. Oh, and a price tag of $50,000. Given the price, I want to know how much the home that uses one as an HT projector costs!

Oh, and a price tag of $50,000I would insist on dual projectors so that I could get the brightness up a bit. :)

"I would insist on dual projectors so that I could get the brightness up a bit."

I believe that it is stackable, yes. But 4 lamps with a total of 7700 ANSI lumens is more than adequate. Heck, 4000 looks good and 4700 is really nice. I'd think 7700 therefore would be plenty. And it's got great reviews. But hey, if you want to stack them... Great:)
