Well it's snowing like a bat out of hell here in NYC, and my DTV is on top of my apt. building, so it's all icy and snowy, ad I just lost signal like an hour ago.
I can get the channels, but satellite is searching like crazy for a signal. I wish it would stop snowing.......

Anyone else TV-less because of the snow?

My first DTV system was on the top of my roof. I lost my signal in every major snow storm. I later bought a Dish system but had it installed on my porch roof right outside a window. During yesterday's heavy storm , the signal was lost. I cleaned the snow from the dish and was back in business in no time.

Yeah... that's the thing. I live in an apt. Building, and my lazy super was off the Job and wasn't letting anyone up there....lol
At least he did shovel the side walk.
After it stopped snowing the signal came back. :-}. I got to watch the last half hour of my Soul Food.
I think we got like 5-7 inches here in Brooklyn. Upstate, I hear they got 21 inches..lol

I have never had a snow out since moving to Florida, but I can still recall the first DTV dish that I ever saw installed in Minnesota. The installer told the customer that the dish should be mounted as high as possible to get the best signal, so they mounted it dead center on the top point of the roof, a very practical spot for clearing snow build up. :( I explained to the customer that a 20' height difference to a target 23,000 miles away wouldn't make any difference and that the dish should have been mounted on the side wall of the house, preferably where it can be reached from the ground for clearing. The installer never returned to move the dish before I moved to Florida, so I suspect it is still up in the air.

I lost my signal for a few hours. I couldn't go out and wipe the snow off my dish because I'm in an apartment building and my dish is on the roof. There were times when I could get just those channels that were on spots (9, 11, 13 and up). It cleared up gradually.
Yeah, lost the signal on all the receviers. Walked up the steps after the snow stopped and brushed off the snow. Picture came back.
Funny thing, Comcast Cable had trouble with about half their analog channels(some with severe sparklies, others completely out). Apparently they do not have heaters on their dishes and no one around that knew how to use a broom. :)

Maybe we should have a poll for how many twist wires you had to remove on Christmas Day!
What is with those things? Those damn toys are secured in there like top secret missle documents..
Continuing OT, but I had to open a Spiderman car that had probably 15 twisty ties, but then had 2 SCREWS holding the car in place, on top of that. It took me longer to get the damn car out of the box, then it took my son to break the car.
And what is up with those new shiny cheap-ass ties!!!?!?!?!?. SOB's are so damn cheap looking, I'd be surprised they even work. Oh..but they DO work. They're just harder to untwist now.

Same here in central, MA. Had about 9 inches of snowfall yesterday, but I never lost the signal or even noticed it dropping with Dish on either receiver.

When I lived in Yakima, WA, we got tons of snow, but I never had an outage. Reason was, the snow there is very dry and just slid off the dish. Since I moved to Oregon, everytime it snows (twice a year), I lose the signal right away because it is so thick and wet it clings to the dish. I have to go out and knock it off the dish about every 1/2" or so of snowfall.
