Why are sports blackouts different on dish and directv?

For instance, I have dish and I get Fox Sports NY and MSG as my local RSN. I also get the Multisports package, so I can also watch Bruins/RedSox games on NESN.

The same zip code but with directv gets all these channels plus Fox Sports New England

Out of market RSNs are blacked out when MLB and NHL evenrts are on. If you are seeing whole games you may very well be in the NESN area (although if DISH lsoes NESN that may not matter).

I am surprised if NESN and FSNE have different areas but I suppose it is possible.

It will matter come next week, when I'm dumping dish for directv once NESN is gone. Didn't know I'd gain FSN NE with the switch.

It is rumored that Dish signed a cheaper contract so there are not as many overlap areas and such.
