I had gotten a new H20-100 (yes I am now a member of the hundred nation) that was delivered Friday. The Mastec guy brought it in and I told him I would handle instalation he said he had to activate it. I told him I would put it in. Wires were run already all I had to do was connect it. He said again he had to activate I said have a seat. Five minutes later it was connected and he made his phone call to activate. He did this in another 5 minutes (with the help of an assistant). I also had a 2 inch pole that I did not need and I gave that to him figured it may help him on an install. I also gave drinks to his assistant and him. He then was leaving an asked for a tip which I politely refused saying it was not much of a job but thanks for dropping the box off. He then went downstairs (I am in an apartment) and yelled at me from downstairs cursing me for not paying for services. I laughed at him and asked him to please not disturb my neigboors. He said he wanted everyone to know how cheap I was.

I went back inside at that moment. I really wanted to mess with him but decided to laugh it off and go play with my new box.

I understand installers are not paid much and have tipped once in the past when I thought the installer went above and beyond.

Mastec really needs to start to have some quality control. DirectV needs to put some pressure on them. The amount of bad expierences on this board and my own personal knowledge (I work for a sister company) are becomming alarming. Just one mans opinion.

Good grief! A tip?!!?!? I got my HR20-100 delivered this past Saturday by D* (D* truck/uniform) and the installer couldn't have been there more than 15 minutes. The only reason it took him that long was waiting to get the box activated over the phone as I had everything ready, like Chopper, for plug and play. Nice guy and what little he had to do he did well but I didn't tip him and he certainly didn't ask for one.

Great! I have mastec coming next week to do my install, not really looking forward to it since they don't seem like a very good company.

I despise Mastec. Nothing but trouble with them. It's almost worth canceling D* over the problems i had...almost. I was told by a CSR that D* is training their own installers, so maybe that's why Mastec doesn't care.

It's like CSR roulette. I've had Mastec for three installs in central Texas and they've done fantastic work. The last one did attic work and even fished a wall for no extra charge. I didn't ask him to do it (since I had one line already through the wall) and told him it wasn't necessary. I was living with one line on that receiver and wasn't worried about it. He did it anyway to give me a second line. His work could be photographed for a textbook on quality installation.

Needless to say, I gave him a nice tip.

I guess it's like every other Customer service, some are better than others. Thanks for the tips.

You were:
+ prepared
+ there

So you had a good install.

I would report that he demanded a tip. Bear in mind that he was paid fo rhte work you did.

I am ok. I could report him but not sure it accomplishes anything. Guys like that will eventually be found out. Plus with my "affiliation" I can use my "favors" for better things.
