Hi Folks,
I am a new recruit to DBST. I am looking for the best system to use on my new Motorhome. I have used the single LNB with both Direct and Dish on a tripod. We moved to Direct as it was easier to hit the satellites in the upper states. I would like to use the tripod mounted dish again. I would like to get as many HD channels as possible. I understand there is some new information coming out on Direct in November. We have a couple of months to make our choice, but would love some advice from you folks. I have read that the 1/3 LNB dishes are much easier to point, what's the deal? But as we are on the move simple is always better.
Thanks in advance,
David

DirecTV has a mobile program, so it mounts on top of your RV. You won't need tripod anymore. Check out the DirecTV website and the mobile program.

If HD is what you want, you are going to need one of theese http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageNR.jsp?assetId=P4370040
and one of these http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageNR.jsp?assetId=P4370056
Directv mobile is another option but very expensive for the equiptment and no HD as far as I can tell. That seems to be mor for viewing while driving, the above satellites can be mounted on a tripod when you make camp.

Yeah, the Tracvision system is very cool, you can watch TV while moving, it's self-aiming, but it's beaucoup bucks.

The problem we found with our roof mounted automatic dish was if there was a twig in the road it would not connect. When I was in an open field and it didn't connect I went to Radio Shack and solved my problems. It is much easyier to move the tripod than the coach.
Why cann't we get HD on the road with Direct?

You can get HD on the road, but you're going to need their new dish that bnglbill posted here: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageNR.jsp?assetId=P4370040
They're not impossible to aim yourself, just a little more complicated, plus you're going to need an older receiver to align the dish at first (H20/21 and HR20/21 won't go into ANYTHING, including the signal strength screen, until it has a signal from the 101 satellite).

So If I bought a H20, Slimline, Multi-switch and Tripod. Then a activated the H-20, that would add $5 a month to my Acc. Then used in the house when I'm not on the road. Could I get Locals after using a Winegard SF-1000 Satellite Signal Finder to set up the Dish when I'm on the road

I believe you could, yes.
I have been reading some of the other posts and would I even need a Multi- Switch if I am only feeding one HD Tv. It also seem I could have a problem with my locals and the spot beams at the 200 range.

If you are running 1 receiver from the 5lnb dish, then no multiswitch. That dish has 4 lines coming from it. So, 2 HR20s, 4 H20s, etc.:)

Correct on the locals......too far out of the spotbeam you will lose them.
What would happen if I changed the zip code to the location where I was Camping on the H-20. Would I get there Locals is available. Or at this point am I better off with a RV acc.
Locals don't work that way. The locals your box can receive are tied to your account. An RV account would get you the big 4 networks.

If you changed it on the receiver, nothing, you would have to change it on the account... And after making the change 2/3 times, your account would be flagged, and investigated, and then they would call you and tell you you cant do that anymore.
Its much safer, cheaper, and easier, to have an RV account.
