Hello--
I use a Pinnacle USB capture device to put shows onto my laptop to watch when I travel. This connects via composite to my existing HR10-250. I use component connections on the HR10 to my TV, and all of the analog outputs still pass a signal. When I get my HR2x in a couple of weeks, I am planning on using the HDMI connection. Will I have to disconnect the HDMI cable each time I want to pass a signal to the Pinnacle device through the composite connection? Or will the analog outputs still pass a signal when the HDMI cable is connected?
Thanks,
Jeff

I had a HR10-250 and it was necessary to down rez the main display to 480i to output analog. This is not necessary on the HR 20-700 , but the analog outputs are 480i.
However in the Setup of the HR20 the HDTV picture ratio format settings are passed on thru on the analog ports. Thus if the original picture is 16:9 HD on the HDMI or component outs, it will still be 16:9 on your analog outs. I have been making some beautiful widescreen SD DVDs this way. If you set your HDTV for 4:3 stretch, crop,, or pillar box for SD material these formats will also show up that way on the analog outputs.
I had a strange problem setting up the Panasonic DVD recorder yesterday. The HR20 HDTV was set to pillar box for 4:3 SD. However I had also set the DVD output set send the SD DVD 4:3 output output back to the HD display as 4:3 pillar box too. The result was a double pillar box and squeezed picture since each unit added pillar boxes when the signal made the roundtrip since both the HR20 and the Panasonic were formatting output.
When you get your system check the multiple format options in both your H2x and computer display to find the right combination to avoid geometry distortion.

... but the analog outputs are 480i....
Is that true? I thought the component outputs were active at the same format as the HDMI output (ie: if HDMI = 720p, then component = 720p).
I'm just about to run component lines from one of my HR20's to a second TV but only if they are both receiving the same format. I don't want the second TV receving an SD signal.

No, the component will be the same resolution as the HDMI.

Sorry, bad wording, All outputs on HR 20 are active. I was referring to the S-video & composite outputs the HR 10 had to be down rezed. and that the HR20 S video and composite analog outputs were 480i.

S Video and composite are always 480i, even if HDMI and component are not.
My living room HR20 feeds HDMI, S-Video and composite all at the same time happily.
