Very disappointed to discover today that Boston Legal did not record last night, despite instructions to record all episodes.

History page provided the very helpful "Canceled", and if there is a way to get more information than that, I haven't found it. Can anyone offer any suggestions, please?

Thanks.

The HR20s thought it was a re-run (it was the canceled one from last week).... since the guide data wasn't updated, the DVR didn't record it.

I saw a post yesterday here that warned that this would happen and I did a solo record for last night.

For some people, Boston Legal would not have recorded because it might have thought it recorded the same episode last week when ABC ran wildfire coverage instead. Mine too is set for all, but was not going to record until I overrode the automatic avoidance.

Don't know if that is true in your case or not.

Cheers,
Tom

Same thing happened to me. Frustrating. Thought the HR20-700 was smarter.

I found a Tivo S3 user that reported the same problem. My HR10 wasn't setup to record last week, so I couldn't try this week. :(

The key is not so much the HR20 but how the guide data is set. If the guide data for last week is changed for this week, then the HR20 would know to record this week even if recorded last week. (And that appears to be what happened with other Tivo models.)

Cheers,
Tom

You thought it was smarter than the guide data it's fed? Wow, that would be one smart machine.

For the record, our Directivo unit also was not scheduled to record it, but we set up a manual after reading about it here yesterday.

Boston Legal did not record for me too..could be the repeat discussion is correct, but I noticed that Boston Legal was listed in the guide as starting at 10:02 and not 10:00. I had another show conflicting but at a lower priority setting than Boston Legal. It started at 10:00. I think the timing may also be an issue here. The networks (mostly ABC) are overrunning shows to capture audiences. The DVR's don't pick this up.

I agree that so far this season lacks a little sparkle but it's still worth watching for several reasons.

My HR20-700 recorded it just fine. I had previously deleted the bad (fire news) recording and had it set as a series link. Maybe that's why mine recording and others didn't?

I deleted the fire stories before they where finished recording, yet I still had to catch this eposide with a manual setting. my defaults are set for frist runs only

This is exactly why I am looking to setup DoD...

What do you mean, the DVR isn't picking up show overruns. Every show that I record on ABC that runs over the hour ALWAYS records properly and records until the end, be it one minute after or two minutes after the hour. Boston Legal didn't record for me either and I am pissed off about it because it is the only show on ABC that does not get streamed over the web either. The issue doesn't have anything to do with timing, it's because like said before the unit saw it as a repeat episode since it was canceled the week before.

So no DoD for Boston Legal? How do you know what is available on demand?

Right now, there are no traditional network programs (ABC, CBS, NBC) available through VOD. Once VOD is enabled, you can tune to channel 1000 to see what's available. You can also tune to an individual channel's VOD offering to see what's there. The VOD for the channel is 1000 + channel number, e.g. The Science Channel VOD is 1284.

No I wasn't talking about On demand, what I was talking about is ABC streams episodes of all shows on their website the day after they air. All shows except Boston Legal are streamed.

I noticed it prior to Tuesday and set up a manual recording. I have a series link as well but to record only first-run episodes. That's what caused me to check when the news special aired last week, knowing that the episode would likely air this week.

I'm checking my To-Do list on a regular basis to make sure things record as scheduled. Right now, it's littered with "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" episodes throughout the two week window on USA Network that have no episode information. They eventually go away, outside of the first-run for Thursday nights.

Is this true for VOD in general regardless of provider? Or just a D* thing?

Comcast has a bunch of VOD for CBS and NBC and some ABC so that answers my question.

Just like turning on new HD channels (and SD ones too), turning up requires agreements with the content providers. I'm sure DIRECTV is actively pursuing all "on demand" sources (well, most...) :)

Then there is the transfer or linking, page building for the channel, etc. And then we get more channels and more content. :)

This is 100% exactly what I was thinking! Money money and then more money... Everything revolves around money.
